Recap
Nothing of note with tiny/flat surf in the 1ft or less range and mostly W’ly winds tending variable then SW today.
This week and weekend (Jun 13 - 18)
We’re midway through a very sleepy week, swell-wise. A high pressure cell is drifting across the interior of the continent with a trough/front connected to a high riding low pushing East of Tasmania through today. That’s driving a mod synoptic W’ly flow across the state, tending more NW on Fri. Approaching mid-latitude lows are too far north and too zonal (W-E) to offer any swell sources for NETas, so surf is expected to stay tiny/flat through the end of this week.
Into the weekend and nothing of any substance is expected as the complex mid-latitude low approaches and a NW flow is driven across the state. Fresh NW wind and tiny/flat surf is expected. We may see a small NE swell Sat from off-axis NW-NNW winds extending off the Gippsland into Bass Strait, but keep expectations low.
A little more hope on the horizon for next week. A front tied to a deep, compact low which moves under Tas on Tues (see below) sees gale force SW winds sweep up past the state. That will see a nice hit of S swell wrapping into S facing beaches Tues, up into the 3-4ft range, holding a that size into Wed morning before easing back. Winds should be mostly W’ly, more W/SW on Tues, switching back W to W/NW on Wed in the wake of the low.
Another approaching mid-latitude low sees surf go tiny/flat into the end of next week. We may see another hit of S swell next weekend, possibly sizey, depending on how the situation shapes up.
Check back Fri for the latest.
