Recap

Not much surf to report Thurs but today we’ve seen a small increase in S swell with 3ft surf at S facing beaches and SW to W’ly tending winds.

This weekend and next week (July2 – Jul 8)

No change to the weekend F/cast. We have a mix of S swells that will ease Saturday from a small 2ft, with background energy likely to maintain the odd stray 1-2ft sets on the magnets Sunday.

Winds looks light and from the W/SW Saturday morning ahead of late afternoon sea breezes, and then W/NW tending NE winds Sunday.

A spike of S groundswell is expected Mon from a fast moving polar low pushing storm force winds through the swell window, although these winds aren’t well aimed at Tasmania’s East Coast. We’ll still see sets to 3-4ft Mon with winds looking great- light W’ly tending variable as high pressure moves across the state.

Small amounts of E/NE swell will build later Mon, into the 2ft range as a Easterly trough low forming off the Sydney coast remains slow moving over the weekend (see below).

E/NE winds feeding into coastal low generate fun waves for NE Tas

Tuesday is a better bet for this swell with sets to 3ft and a W’ly flow before a cold front brings SW to S winds.

The front tied to a fast moving low brings another small pulse of S swell Wed, along with some small leftovers from the E/NE. That should see some fun peaks in the 2-3ft range, easing through the day with light winds expected.

Further ahead and small surf is expected Thurs/Fri with an increase in S swell on the cards for next weekend.

A brief front in advance of a new high moving at a very S’ly latitude brings a brief flush of S swell into Sat.

The remnants of the current Easterly Trough low near Sydney are expected to reform near New Zealand and a fetch of SE winds near the South Island later next week and into the weekend should see some quality SE-ESE swell for East Coast Tas, later in the weekend or early in the week beginning 11/7.

Check back Mon for details and have a great weekend!
