This week and weekend (May 12 – 18)
These notes are brief as Ben's away.
Tomorrow morning will still be good across the coast, with another final pulse of E/SE swell from the base of the Tasman Low that's been dominating our weather since late last week.
This should keep 3-4ft sets hitting open beaches tomorrow before easing later in the day, and from 2ft+ Wednesday morning.
An early W/SW winds is due to give into a gusty S'ly change through the day, limiting the best waves to southern corners through the afternoon.
Wednesday looks great with all day W'ly winds, likely variable into the afternoon.
Also in the mix Wednesday should be a new S'ly groundswell, generated by a strong polar low moving under the state tomorrow.
Sets to 3ft+ are due through the morning, easing into the afternoon and smaller Thursday.
Into the end of the week we're due to see a strong long-period S'ly groundswell pushing into south magnets, generated by a secondary much stronger polar low moving through our swell window.
A fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W'ly winds will push from well south of WA, east and then up towards New Zealand.
We may see a very late pulse of S'ly swell Thursday, but Friday morning should reveal strong 4-5ft sets across south magnets, but much smaller waves elsewhere and tiny in southern corners.
Winds aren't ideal for south magnets with a light morning W/SW breeze, tending variable and possibly light onshore. Still there should be some fun options about.
Saturday morning should provide fun leftover sets at south magnets though with a W/SW tending SW breeze as a strong cold front slides straight up past us. Following this we're looking at a large S'ly swell, with further good pulses next week, but more on this Wednesday.
