Eastern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 2nd October)

Best Days: Late Thursday, the weekend onwards

Recap

Tiny surf on Saturday with the odd mini set at south magnets, while Sunday was similar with the swell having too much west in it to really impact our region.

This morning there was a little more action out on the coast, providing some small sets at south magnets.

This week and weekend (Oct 3 - 8)

The small S'ly swell seen into today may hold into early tomorrow morning across south magnets before slowly easing into the afternoon with offshore W/NW winds.

We'll then be looking at tiny surf on Wednesday ahead of some fun NE windswell Thursday.

This windswell and following S tending E/SE swell will be linked to a deepening surface trough moving in slowly from the west.

As this trough interacts with a high in the southern Tasman Sea we'll see a good fetch of NE winds aimed into us, strengthening Thursday

The swell should build Thursday and reach 2-3ft later in the afternoon ahead of a late offshore change.

We'll then see the trough moving east into Friday, directing a fetch of strong S'ly winds up past us, kicking up some decent S'ly windswell.

But of greater importance is a fetch of strong to gale-force E/SE winds forming around the base of a broader Tasman Low developing to our east, strengthen into Saturday morning, resulting in the formation of a good prolonged E/SE groundswell event, building Saturday and peaking Sunday morning.

Winds on Friday and Saturday look poor and out of the S'th, variable Sunday morning before freshening from the N'th, back offshore Monday.

This is quite a dynamic setup so check back here Wednesday for an update on the timing, size and local winds revolving around this event.
