Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 3rd November)

Best Days: Tuesday northern corners, Wednesday southern corners, Thursday and Friday beaches open to the NE swell

Recap

Some tiny NE swell was seen through Saturday before fading into Sunday with less than ideal winds.

A strong and late kick in S'ly swell was seen through the afternoon and this has peaked this morning to a solid 3-4ft across open beaches with 5-6ft sets at south swell magnets under early N/NW winds. Sea breezes have since kicked in from the E/NE along with a drop in swell.

This swell has come in above my initial forecasts Friday as a result of the low moving across us deepening further and more favourably than outlined on Friday, but the automated forecasts upgraded the outlook in response for today.

This week (Nov 4 - 7)

There should still be plenty of swell out of the S/SE tomorrow on the backside of this morning's solid S'ly groundswell but winds will be an issue and only favour south swell magnets with a fresh N/NW tending strong N/NE breeze.

South facing breaks should still be offering 3ft to possibly 4ft sets early before dropping back through the afternoon. The strengthening N/NE wind will also kick up a building N/NE windswell, reaching 2ft+ later in the day at north-east facing beaches.

Come Wednesday morning the N/NE windswell should peak during the morning to 2-3ft at north-east facing beaches as a fresh and gusty S'ly change pushes up the coast. This will favour the southern corners picking up the swell and also kick up some weak S'ly windswell.

The good thing about this change is that it won't extend far off our coast and with this we'll see an infeed of NE winds continuing to be aimed towards us until early Thursday morning. This should continue to produce NE swell for Thursday to 2ft on the sets before backing off to 1-2ft Friday.

Winds should also improve with a light offshore breeze both Thursday and Friday mornings.

This weekend onwards (Nov 8 onwards)

There's nothing significant due over the weekend, but moving into the middle of next week we may see some healthy S'ly swell across the coast, more on this Wednesday though.
