Flukey south swell Friday
Eastern Tasmania Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 29th October)
Best Days: Friday morning south swell magnets, possible later Sunday, Monday morning
Recap
No swell as expected the last day or so, with yesterday's vigorous low generating winds too west in nature to generate any S'ly swell for our region.
This week (Oct 30 - 31)
Tomorrow will remain effectively flat, but we should see some small waves from the S'th into Friday morning.
This will be from a better aligned polar low firing up in our swell window, to the south-west of the state today.
A fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds are being produced, with the southern nature of the low allowing the swell to spread more and up into us Friday morning.
No major size is expected, but with tiny waves at east facing breaks, but south swell magnets should see very infrequent 2-3ft sets at the swells peak before easing during the day. Conditions will be great for these locations as well with a freshening W/NW tending N/NW breeze.
This weekend onwards (Nov 1 onwards)
Friday's swell is expected to fade into Saturday with no real surfable waves likely to be found across the coast.
Into Sunday and Monday though, a cold front projecting from our south on a favourable north-northeast track towards the Tasman Sea should produce a fun S'ly swell.
The swell is only due to develop later Sunday and peak Monday to 1-2ft at open beaches and 3ft at south facing locations. Winds are a little tricky at this stage, but a late offshore may be seen Sunday, while Monday looks to see SW tending E/NE winds.
Beyond this there's nothing too major on the cards, but we'll have another look at this on Friday.
