Great mid-winter run of surf continues until mid week
Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Mon 17th July)
This week and next week (July17-Jul 29 )
Central QLD: Great mid-winter run of surf continues until mid week
Great fun waves over the weekend and continuing into today.
No great change to the outlook.
We’ve got a mobile pattern this week with high pressure over NSW slipping out into the Tasman, rebuilding the tradewind fetch in the Coral Sea and maintaining really fun surf across CQ.
Size should hold at similar levels through Mon/Tues and start to ease Wed as a front pushes into the Tasman and disrupts the blocking high pressure belt which has supplied tradewinds.
Through the end of the week we’ll see smaller surf but S-SE winds pushing north into the Coral Sa should maintain small, rideable waves until Fri.
Further ahead and we’ll see surf become tiny over the weekend, and into early next week.
We may see another round of tradewind swell into the end of next week as a high moves off the South Coast. Small amounts of long range E/SE swell from a low pressure system near the North Island are also a possibility later next week.
Check back Wed for the latest.
