Central QLD Forecaster Notes by Steve Shearer (updated on Fri 7th April)

This weekend and next week (Apr7-Apr14)

Central QLD: Flat spell extends through next week

Not flat but very tiny

A trough of low pressure off the Mid North Coast is located too far south and in the swell shadow of Fraser Island to generate any meaningful swell for the CQ region. As this system moves away we may see some tiny SE swells creep around the corner into the Capricorn channel but any size will be marginal at best.

Surf then eases back to tiny/flat over the Easter weekend and into early next week.

Unfortunately, our expected high in the Tasman is now being shunted NE by a powerful low pressure system in the Tasman Sea which will send powerful S swells up the NSW and SEQLD coasts but not reach CQ.

Large low in the Tasman blocks Coral Sea swell window

Under current modelling we’re now looking at tiny/flat surf extending through the entirety of next week.

Longer term and models are hinting at further low pressure development in the lower Tasman which would contribute to the seasonal shutting down of the Coral Sea swell window.

Check back Fri for the latest update.

Good Friday Update: No change to the outlook- flat spell extends through next week.
