Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thu 14th Aug)

Best Days: Friday, Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

This Friday onwards (Aug 15 onwards)

We've been on a gradual drop in size from the oversized S/SW groundswell that filled in on Monday. This morning a low point in swell was seen with inconsistent and slow offerings on selected reefs.

A new long-range S/SW groundswell is due to fill in this afternoon and peak tomorrow morning, topping exposed spots up to 4-6ft before easing into Saturday and further Sunday.

Fresh to strong E/SE trades should slowly back off over the coming days, becoming their weakest on Monday.

Another long-range and inconsistent SW groundswell is due later Sunday and Monday across the region, but this swell will be a touch smaller than tomorrow's swell. The SW direction should help push a little more size into slightly protected spots though.

This has been generated by strong but unconsolidated polar activity north of the Heard Island region, and a secondary slightly better pulse is due from the same area on Tuesday afternoon.

Size wise Monday's pulse should come in at 4-5ft at exposed spots, with Tuesday afternoon's offering larger 6ft sets. Winds should be variable each morning before fresh E/SE trades kick in, opening up more options for a surf.

Longer term we've still got an eye on early the week of the 25th of August for some larger groundswell activity but until then there's nothing too significant on the cards.

The Indian Ocean just keeps on giving. In Swellnet's opinion how are these next two swells predicted to stack up for Indo compared to the last one that they ran the rip curl cup during?

Probably not as big Reecen, just a touch under as the core wind speeds don't reach the storm-force range like the last system.

But it'll be more consistent with the storm pushing much further north through the Indian Ocean, closer to Indonesia.

Second follow up swell could be quite a monster though. Watch this space.
