Seven Days From the Cape

This morning it's two foot in Sydney, yet last Friday Cape Solander was off the hook as a fresh east swell unloaded triple-sucking compression chambers on the shallow sandstone shelf.  Charlie Straumeitis was there to film the carnage (and occasional moments of glory).

Yes, its Glamarama, in all its offshore glory! The afternoon before these shots were taken, the World Champ had a surprise session here, however there are no shots of that devon-headed spotlight-stealer in this gallery.

Rusty Moran

He may not live in the area anymore, but when Rusty Moran hears this particular reef is breaking he's there quicker than you can say, "your turn on the rope". Rusty whipped into a nice one last Saturday.

Pikers Hole

Cape Fear, Cape Solander, Ours....Sydney's heaviest waves has had many monikers but its original name - first given to it in 1968 - is the one that I like best: Pikers Hole. Despite it's reputation as the thickest and shallowest wave around, Pikers Hole was overshadowed on the weekend by it's lesser siblings.
