'Southern Blast' Trailer + Film Dates

Multinationals Schlumberger and TGS are planning one of the largest seismic surveys the world has ever seen – 5.5 million hectares stretching from northern Tasmania, across western Victoria, and over to South Australia. The area is larger than the size of Tasmania, adjacent to the Twelve Apostles, the Great Southern Reef and significant biodiverse ecosystems.

“The scale of this proposed seismic survey is just outrageous," saiy Surfrider CEO Sean Doherty. "Once again, marine wilderness is being handed to the gas industry for profiteering at the expense of the environment, the climate and the Australian people. Australia is aiming to hit net zero by 2050. How the hell can this be part of that plan?”

Below is sneak peak of Southern Blast, a film by Matty Hannon. The film premieres in Hobart this Sunday the 8th October then it's going on the road, through Tassie and up the east coast of Australia.

Film screenings will have live music, good food, and expert panel discussions. Join us for a bev, a chat, and a beautiful film that targets the biggest 3D marine seismic blasting project in history.

We promise it’ll be fun, and the world will be better for it.

Unreal. Otway basin is the best place in the world. Bonney Upwelling is just about the best thing there is. Thanks for posting this.

The hypocrisy by Australian governments is endless.

I'm in Victoria, where domestic gas connection has just been banned. Yet overall exploration is ramping up. I wrote to one of the officials to query this and the reply seemed like classic buck-passing.

VICTORIA
Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
The Victorian Earth Resources Regulator (Minister for Energy and Resources)
Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2010 ( (to 3 nautical miles from the coast)

FEDERAL
National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA)
Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006

Hi Sean
I'm sure you are here somewhere. What about some screenings in the Illawarra , the south coast, and the far south coast ? Just as populated with nature-caring and ocean people as anywhere. I feel you are missing some strong waves of support from those areas.
