Yours and Owls festival

unnamed.pngWhen we said that this year’s Yours and Owl’s festival was going to be bigger and better, we weren’t lying! Last week we announced 1st release tickets have sold-out, and today we are adding a bunch of brag-worthy artists to our line-up and announcing an Australian festival first, the addition of our mind-blowing art installation ‘Moon Beach’! A ~ trippy AF ~ full-dome that uses projections and specially commissioned musical compositions to help you lose your imagination in space, in search of a deeper understanding of the power and mystery of music and its effect on the human soul. But more on that below!

We are stoked to announce that The Jezabels will be popping by the gong, the four-piece will hit Y&O’s following on from the success of their stunning third album SYNTHIA, released in February 2016 and hailed as their finest effort yet. The festival set will be a welcome return for the ‘My Love Is My Disease’, ‘Pleasure Drive’ and ‘Come Alive’ Sydney siders, who were forced to cancel a tour six months ago for keyboardist Heather Shannon to continue her treatment for ovarian cancer. We are so thrilled that Heather’s health is back in check, and that the band are truly psyched and ready to hit the road once again, performing favorites from earlier albums Prisoner (2011) and The Brink (2014) and now SYNTHIA!

Shining Bird are an experimental pop band from the coastal town of Austinmer, NSW Australia. The band have just announced their sophomore album Black Opal. Mixed by Russell Webster and Tim Whitten (The Go-Betweens, Hoodoo Gurus), the album was written and recorded over the past two years in the Blue Mountains of NSW. The follow up to Leisure Coast will include the SMAC award-winning ‘Rivermouth’, acclaimed single ‘Helluva Lot’, and a collaborative effort with didjeridoo player Charlie McMahon (Gondwanaland) to name a few.

Lurking in the shadows of Melbourne and dragging their followers into the darkest places of the human psyche, rock and roll phenomenon Pagan have spent their first year of existence gaining notoriety from a ritualistic live show and growing a cult following off the back of a four song demo. More recently, their single ‘Surfers Paradise’ showed off their raw power and prowess, getting spun on triple j and community radio stations around the country. Grab your dancing shoes, iron your best turtleneck and put the Campari on ice – you’re ready to pray at the church of Pagan!

Emerging from the seemingly sleepy suburbs of Adelaide, Horror My Friend's approach to noisey, indie-rock is youthful and idiosyncratic. Tapping into the spirit of 90’s college-rock and shoe-gaze the trio break new ground with their raw yet melodic auteurist songwriting, bolstered by frenetic, energetic live performances.
It's already been a massive year for Horror My Friend, with the release of their debut album Stay In, Do Nothing in January, two national tours, a trip to the UK and support slots with the likes of Tigers Jaw, Ceremony, Lou Barlow & Camp Copealready under their belt.

As you know, we love us some art at Y&O’s and live for asking life’s big questions! Have you ever wondered why so many people are crazy about music festivals? The answer it turns out, lies in the oldest part of the brain, the part responsible for our emotional world. To help you understand the relationship between those incredible spine tingling musical experiences and the affect it has on human emotions, we have put together a mind-blowing art installation, ‘Moon Beach’, which will be debuted at the festival.

Set inside a giant geodesic dome, ‘Moon Beach’ is an extraterrestrial planetary experience, an immersive augmented reality that uses full-dome projections by James Kates and specially commissioned musical compositions by Daniel Stricker, Russell W and Jono Watts three of Australia’s most promising artists in the electronic music genre. ‘Moon Beach’ invites us all to lose our imagination in space, in search of a deeper understanding of the power and mystery of music and its effect on the human soul. Who said you weren’t going to learn something at Y&O’s?

1ST release tickets to Yours & Owls Festival have now sold out, 2 ND release tickets are on sale now.  It’s time to get planning your road trip down south! Yours & Owls will be taking place over the NSW Labour Day long weekend (1st and 2nd October), across two sun-soaked days at Stuart Park near the North Wollongong Beach.
