It's that time of year again when we're told we should be thinking of others. Enjoy the gift of giving the right-minded folk say and we solemnly nod our head in agreement. But c'mon people, you can be honest with us, we know what you're really thinking: What am I gonna receive?

Well, we here at Swellnet can answer that for you with our Christmas swell forecast. Read on for a coast by coast serve of selfishness:

South-east Queensland to East Coast Tasmania: The whole Australian East Coast will be bathed in inconsistent easterly groundswell from Friday through to Monday thanks to Tropical Cyclone Evan. The SE Qld and North Coasts should pulse between 4-5ft from Thursday afternoon but varying winds will limit the best waves to protected spots early each morning. The swell will be smaller the further south of Seal Rocks you travel, coming in at 3-4ft in Sydney (with the rare bigger set) and 2-3ft in Tassie.

By Christmas day only small 2ft to occasionally 3ft leftovers are expected across the mainland with smaller surf on the Tassie East Coast.

South Australia / Victoria / Hobart: South Oz and Vicco are looking to offer the worst waves around the country heading towards Christmas, with only a small W/SW swell due over the weekend with SE winds Saturday and N/NE winds into Sunday. So hit up those super exposed spots on Sunday for the best waves!

Christmas Day looks poor with onshore winds associated with a strengthening storm to the west of Tassie. On the upside, this should kick up an afternoon increase in swell with fun waves on the cards for Boxing Day.

The South Arm is expected to be tiny all weekend but that new swell forecast for Boxing Day should provide a few more options across the region.

Western Australia: A moderate W/SW swell should fill in on Saturday and then ease through Sunday but onshore winds will create poor conditions across all of the state. Christmas Eve will offer better waves as winds swing offshore and the swell backs off from 3-5ft around Margaret River, 1-2ft in Perth and 2-3ft in Geraldton. Christmas Day will see clean conditions but not much in the way of swell.

So, while Christmas Day doesn't look to offer any epic waves across the country, there'll be plenty of days either side of Tuesday to get your fill.
