The Kirra Surfriders Club of which Michael was a Life Member, former President, and Club Champion will host a Paddle Out this Saturday 14th of April. Everyone is asked to meet at Queen Elizabeth Park, Coolangatta, opposite Big Groyne Kirra from 10am where close friend of MP, former Kirra club member and now Minister Guy Omerod will commence the eulogies.

Rabbit Bartholomew, Mick Fanning and younger brother Tommy Peterson will be called upon to speak, after which the Kirra Surfriders will perform a guard of honour letting the paddlers pass through on their way out to perform the traditional circle out off Kirra Point. Kirra was the spiritual surfing home of Michael Peterson who was referred to as the King of Kirra.

Michael's Mother, Joan, has confirmed and given her blessing for the Paddle Out for her oldest son who passed away of a sudden heart attack on the Thursday morning before Easter. MP considered to be one of the all time surfing greats was 59 and would have turned 60 in September.

The annual MP Classic sponsored by Chiko and organized by Surfing Queensland is on this weekend (more than likely at D-Bah). The State Surfing body will allow competitors the opportunity to participate in the Paddle Out on Saturday from 10am until Midday.

It will be a massive day of celebrating the Legendary Status of Michael Peterson and Joan Peterson has invited as many friends and fans of the Great Man to join in the Paddle Out or to congregate on land to be part of this significant send off for Michael.

The KPI (Kirra Point Inc.) the lobby group for bringing back Kirra Point had previously organized a rally on the same day to continue their campaign to bring back the once iconic point break. The rally, due to start at Midday, is called: "The Kirra Point High Noon Rally – We Want Our Rocks Back!"

Obviously this Saturday will be a significant day to remember Michael Peterson and everyone is encouraged to give MP a beautiful send off at Kirra!
