Dream Conditions Forecast for SurfSho

It's been a long time since a professional surfing competition was held at Bondi Beach - 21 years in fact. In the interim the ASP has created and christened the Dream Tour, holding competitions at some of the best waves on the planet with waiting periods to maximise the chance for great surf. No longer did surfers have to do the Bondi Bounce or the Huntington Hop to extract meagre points out of marginal waves.

Things have come full circle however...

Last year surfers journeyed to Huntington Beach hoping to win the huge first prize Hurley layed out in the US Open, while this weekend the worlds best surfers will descend upon Bondi to take part in a radical new competition format. Besides being unique, the format for the Boost Mobile SurfSho is best employed in smaller, onshore conditions - exactly the type forecast this weekend!

Swellnet forecaster Craig Brokensha has called for surf between two-to-three feet with light to moderate onshore winds for the weekend. At any other event this would be dissappointing but for this competition, where big airs are the order of the day, it's great news.

Beachside punters are now assured of seeing competitors boost off the many ramps and sections that Bondi will throw up in these conditions, with the onshores increasing the likelihood of them being successfully landed. And with surfers such as Kelly Slater, Jordy Smith, Taj Burrow and Owen Wright they'll be seeing the world's best aerial surfing.

The Boost Mobile SurfSho runs from the 12th to 14th March at Bondi Beach.
