Watch: Clay Marzo // Three Days In The Desert
The first time I heard this Sublime song used for a surf soundtrack, Occy was racing pre-Superbank Kirra, Jack McCoy had parked himself near the hut, sun was out, and the footage landed in The Green Iguana, McCoy's second Billabong film.
It pairs equally well here with Clay Marzo and Desert Point, filmed by Ivan Tanjung to hopefully appear in Snapt5. Apparently the best clips from the three days filming have been put on ice.
Even if it's not your style, don't let the music taint your experience. Press mute and enjoy Marzo's brilliance: hard fades, subtle stalls, a sixth-sense speed management that places him as deep as possible without failing.
Though I'm not sure old mate at the 1:00 min mark would be gushing.

Yes, I did mute it, great surf though...
No muting here. That soundtrack takes me back.
No muting- blast from the past.
Love Marzo`s surfing. A little awkward on land but totally at home in the water.
(Twas a bad burning though- maybe a nod to the Munga burning in the same segment if I recall, which to this day remains one of the worst blatant dropins ever committed to vid)
Muted. Great out takes, look forward to the real deal
Kids a freak!
Same bloke faded him at the start!
Paybacks a bitch.
Awesome soundtrack!
Na the Guy at start had Vest and Boardies on.
I think he's getting better at tube riding
Man did that take me back!
40oz to freedom
It's a cover of a Bad Religion song. That Sublime album gets me so psyched.
that last wave with the seemingly unmakeable tube section... i still think it was unmakeable.
Textbook left hand tube riding and a great soundtrack! Personal opinion only but why anyone would mute a Sublime track from a surf clip is beyond me! Sublime + Surf Culture are inextricably entwined!
Great tune, but no chicken/rooster clucking to finish (Green iguana style). Mustn't have been enough drill rap for the muters above.
Ripping Rocky, just like Occy
Ciao.
Sorry, how can you not like Sublime???
Guy can find a tube!
we shouldnt be idolising people because of their sporting prowess. idolise them first as good humans, its a bonus if they surf well. hate people who blatantly drop in.
Gives the double bird to someone at 50 sec, maybe a mate maybe not. Maybe the guy in the spring suite needed to get dropped in on.
I wore that kirra section on green iguana out. Jack was a master at capturing the fun of surfing and I can't think of a better example than that - crystal clear water, sun out, only 2-3' but rifling kirra with luke, munga and occy seeing how fast they could go. Great pre surf amp up material.
Turned me onto Sublime as a young fella. One evening after a work party I returned home with one of my work colleagues and popped Sublime onto the cd player as we got down to business. Half we through, she says: "this music is shit, have you got any Beastie Boys". I was torn being a BB fan, though that was it for me. Never saw her again. Sublime still have pride of place in my work out play list. Immortal lyrics for a surfing life too: "We're all gonna die from our own arrogance so we might as well take our time". As true today as it was 30 years ago.
love it! The track and desert point. Thats brings back lots of good memories....
the speed he gets is unreal. barely a pump or 2 and making impossibly deep sections
The prick had more tube time in three days than I’ve had in 30 years, and believe me when I say I’ve put in the effort.
The way he rides so far up on his board with so much control. Must have been absolutely flying.
Watched again unmuted loved it! Marzo has cat-like poise
