Recently, Dane and his mates raided the attic of the Channel Island factory, laying their grubby mitts on history-making boards such as Curren's OP Pro-winning Red Beauty, Slater's boobs board, numerous blades from Rob Machado, and also boards from Dane's early career, including the first Proton, and the first Dumpster Diver.

Then they surfed them and filmed it all.

It's a simple idea, and considering the appetite for nostalgia it's hard to believe it hasn't been done before, if only to see how far board design has come. Cutting edge then, slow and sluggish now.

It's enjoyable viewing, though not surprising. What jolts is the blood-soaked way the clip ends, with Dane laying prone in hospital as thick claret pulses from his forehead.

Not sure what metaphorical spin can be put on the unscripted ending. Perhaps a cosmic response for one of the archival boards being damaged?
