Watch: In The Family of Things
There aren't too many more pleasing things to the eye than Dave Rastovich on backlit, bowly rights, captured and edited beautifully by Nathan Oldfield.
Simple pleasures in beautiful environs. Put this one down for a nice lunch-time or evening watch.

It's been an incredible Winter so far in terms of biomass and biodiversity and as well as presenting Rasta's surfing Nathan has done a wonderful job of capturing that.
if you're time poor, skip to at least 2min in. if you've got time, soak it all in :)
That last wave says it all... thanks for the little Tuesday escape. wicked clip with some great surfing
I concur.
Who's boards is he riding? Doesn't appear to be Gary McNeill's?
7:18s. Eden Saul/Dead Kooks.
6'5 YinYang
Credits also state Gary - neither of those sleds looked like his?
I've often wondered about surf / shaper relationships. Do they get annoyed when their crew are surfing different boards?
4 channel Entity Twin, according to Gary:
Waves, surfing, music, camera work. Perfect synthesis.
I needed that.
Spot on Island bay !
Id like to see some Footage of this Morning - 7'0 Single Fin no Leggie
Saw him get a few that day surfing it solo, later in the morning.
Haha, check the comments on that Insta post.
Glad for the update on the board - I could see it wasn't a Gary Mc but was guessing a 6'6" cosmic twin from Joel fitz
Sweet outline
Beautiful!
Very very nice
Soul Pro Rasta thinks he,s related to dolphins and whales?
such a beautiful film and peaceful surfing; best example of a set a seen for a long while
Beautiful North Coast bliss and Rasta looking very happy with his place in the world - loved it
I'm sure Rasta isn't being paid to surf anyone's boards anymore but he would always be getting gear given to him to try especially if he can do a little edit here and there like that one .
it was a bright touch on a dreary winters day . Good luck to the guy he's always been a great surfer.
Smiling gleeful Rasta, instilled a happy feeling in me, nice in tune, in sync cinematography, soulful, just nice, thank you!
The 3 dolphins rise and in perfect synchronisation, that bit of footage and the breaching whale was amazing!
The board looks stable under foot and a decent volume with widest point quite forward of centre, single concave to twin vee?
The Ying Yang has come about through a few years of tinkering and toying with the Aphex. Wanting something with a little more agility and quick-witted responsiveness, the rail was dropped, pulled in a bit, a little nip and tuck was made here and there, and out came the younger, over-caffienated sibling. We've been running these with channels or a more simple bottom shape with panel-vee under the back foot, finding joy on both as so much of the hold and drive is a product of the longer rail being engaged. Generally ridden slightly shorter than you would the Aphex, these are best from 6'3-7'0.
No Channels in this one of Rastas
Been wondering about a twin for a while now - I haven't had one for years - and this may be the one. I had always thought DeadKooks was a mass produced popout company for some reason so never really had a look.
dandandan...have you checked the Cost of the Boards
Yeah I had a look then. The cost of boards are all over the place these days it seems. Some people are somehow still charging the same prices they were 10 years ago, others are pushing $2k if not more. The fair price for a surfboard is an interesting thing to think about.
Hi Udo,
You're the maker! Great! so creative. Like cappuccinos? I prefer flat white actually (every now and again) with that tinge of caffeine in the system.
Had another quick glimpse at the board in the vid. The deck rails look low to form a convex deck shape, I'm assuming this is where the volume is maintained, creating the stability from the buoyancy. Also with the wide point forward creates volume and stability. It appears soft as he drives and pumps, so I'm assuming the bottom rails toward the tail aren't too sharp (??) which if so, would keep the rider close to the pocket, possibly providing a bit more control as well for those reactionary moves in powerful sucky waves as these ones ridden are.
As Craig said up the Page - Eden Saul is Shaper / Owner
https://deadkooks.com/
I pinched that piece above from his Page..
Ha, of course, of course, typical, quite often jumping before looking. Apparently I'm already onto the second round of those 9 cat lives!
Cheers Udo!
Is Eden the same Eden who used to work with Gazza when he was formula energy?
Rasta could surf anything looks great on whatever. Oldfield - relative of Tubular Bells?
Reminded me of a modern MP in MOTE.
What was the music. Didn't see it mentioned. Loved it.
