Watch: Kyron Rathbone // Wild Times
Two weeks back, and with a huge day at Shippies in the offing, Kyron Rathbone had a dilemma. Injured from a wipeout a fortnight earlier, he could either turn his back on the surf, pretend it wasn't happening, or immerse himself in it, albeit it on the other side of the camera to which he is used to.
Kyron chose the latter, and in this clip, where he looks a mix of Tom Selleck and Steve Zissou, he leads a merry troupe of friends in on the long walk, helps them get off the rocks, and then parked his arse in the channel, "shooting all arvo as the waves got bigger and bigger."
Good down home viewing.

Getting out there with those cameras is one hell of a trip and makes me wonder how they get back in...amazing footage and not for the faint hearted (me) ...thanks for sharing SW and Kyron
Agreed, only thing missing was the journey over the rocks to get back to land. Would have been the perfect finish to the Video.
That was an excellent 8? mins. The in water/drone footage absolutely put you there. Some may say it lacked polish or would criticize some technicality but i think the rawness enhanced the clip and the music was a good match too. congratulations to the surfers and the filmaker.
totally agree.. love the line: 'getting close now... well... close to the walk' : )
Mad Fckers
A Different view
Wow...I was a little blasé leaning into that and it had something that others dont. Raw, more real, stoke not macho - loved it.
I love the footage of the jump off. Epic video. Incredible waves. What a day!!!!
Jump off was special, whole vid took you there a bit closer than what we might see. Young crew are charging it. Well done.
How long is that hike in?
About 2 hrs from memory... well worth it, beautiful bush, big tiger snakes, incredible views and then the whole bluff experience
Awsome! Snakes no thanks. That wave looks fund at abut 6 to 8ft...then after that also no thanks,
I'm in awe of the skill level and committment from those guys And the camera crew). Well put together vid that shows the true power out there.
Beautiful. Scary. That tracking shot at 6:21 is fantastic.
HAHAHAH I really need to man up, that puts every 'big' day at my local into perspective.
Makes me so proud to be an aussie seeing stuff like that, what a bunch of hell men and women!!!
Amazingly different, grassroots video. I was hooked from the beginning.
Wild!
That was an awesome vid captured the feel of the place so much more than anything I've seen before.
Absolutely one of the best edits , keeping it real , thanks ya'all !
Yep…I’ll take that over a Bonython edit any day…well done lads!!
+1, a refreshing lack of slow mo
I see he was there in Nates clip. Stu no need to add his inevitable 15 minutes for 3 waves, death by a thousand frames snoozefest, this one shits on it already.
Yeeeoowww!!! Haha
Hahaha yessssss!
Loved seeing the jump in. How to the photogs get in? It can't be at the jump off point, right?
Mostly they go by boat, when you walk in the jump is your only option!!!!

Loved this video. Loved the music. Raw and compelling. Thanks to all involved for making it.
The water angle will never die. The video was exceptional in every regard
Thank you so much! The water angle is always where I want to be!!! Haha
Kyron. That was wonderful, no selling, no marketing, no chest thumping claims, absolutely no bullshit at all. Stoke is alive and well. AW.
Good work - thanks for sharing. Something honest in the mix there.
That was sick - great job Kyron and co - gives me Mickey Smith filmography vibes with the interwoven real sounds and sense of the characters out there giving it a big nudge - and I reckon that's about the biggest compliment I can pay because he's a legend at this kind of session storytelling. The jump off had me so stoked!
