Highlights of the 2020 Gold Coast Winter
On a seasonal basis, surfers can usually anticipate how the broad surf regime might play out for the coming months. Though, sometimes it doesn't always follow the script: this Victorian winter, for starters, has seen an extended run of unusually small, average surf.
Winter on the Gold Coast is usually a time to gear-down, as retreating trades slows the supply of short range easterly swells - its bread-and-butter swell source through summer and autum - placing a higher emphasis on significant groundswell events. But, as we've detailed in several articles (here, here, here and here), the synoptic charts have been well and truly active across the Tasman Sea this winter, and the Gold Coast has delivered some outstanding surf days.
Craig Halstead has complied this highlights clip for your viewing pleasure.

Any clues as to where these waves can be found?
I have been looking for my highlight reels in the akashic records. They seem to be miss filed.

Thats Sammy Yoon from Flying Soul surfboards. Good surfer, great shaper, & absolute top bloke.
Yes. Great to see Sam in the mix on another Gold Coast highlights vid. He deserves representation as a true stand-out, cultural icon and all-round awesome dude!
Barrel and style at 0:20 is my pick of the lot.
Ahhhhh bloody shame we don't have any surf photographer who will swim in the open beaches. Saw a lot more better and ballsier surfing in the open beaches away from the shit fights of the stinking point surfing.
last wave is nuts!
