Watch: Noosa in the raw
This swell was never gonna be a marathon, not with the way Uesi bobbed out from beyond New Cal and then dropped like a yo yo. It was always going to be a matter of gettin' in and gettin' er done, and with a small window of opportunity the crowds at the few places handling the swell would be bad. Worse than usual.
Anyone paddling out at Noosa knew that in advance - ain't no excuse for naivety. But there's also no excuse for some of the drop ins on display.
Enough of the negatives, this vid is raw and shaky but there's enough solid makeable barrels to keep your spirit soaring.

That first pit is unbelievable
And the next 28 minutes is dogshit.
You know that some cinematic wizard somewhere will edit/ splice/ manufacture an envy worthy clip out of that session but the reality is totally uninspiring.
Haha. I wouldn't be out there for quids with that crowd, but i think the waves look pretty good
That first drainpipe was friggin crazy! Well done fella, my hat's off.
Harrison Roach....got to be close to barrel of the swell, talk about degree of difficulty....
typical Noosa , people dropping in all the time. plenty of people out there that should not have been in the water, especially as the swell got bigger.
Yuck!
That first one was super sick.
Wonder what it was doing down the line.
Super crowded but still a magical spot just the set up and the national park, you would still have to paddle out and just drift down all the way to first point and see what you get and do that a couple of times.
Just saw some pics from down the line, crowded but sand is pretty much perfect, lining up as good as it gets all the way through.
That's what i did and yup, the sand is really good. Or at least was now that this swell hit. Had a check of TT and there's not much sand on the inside so the only option is to join the scrapfight at the top.
I've been up there the last few days. The drop ins are atrocious. So brazen and no Fs given. Paddling paddling on top of each other. Had to have a laugh with another bloke after one scene. Have even seen a few out there on logs with no leash ffs.
That’s a dastard drop-in on the ride starting at 15:53.
i agree indo... first tube was unreal. i liked the whole video, for me its just like seeing an old friend. if i was there now i would walk around to granite bay. back in the day you could get waves to your self. 30 years ago.
The only way I could bring myself to paddle out in those conditions would be if I could get in a time machine with all my gear and travel back to the most comparable day in.....lets say.....1960
That crowd isn't that bad given how it's corduroy with waves every 12 seconds. It's not like the Surf Coast with sets 10-15-20 minutes apart. Those rocks look a little too close for comfort though.
To quote my good friend Island Bay: It’s like sex in a quarry. Fucking close to the rocks.
I personally like watching the average joe surfer for a change.
Some of those wipeouts made me wince, and we've all been there before.
Yes watching the non-pros was refreshing for a change! Great camera work I was riveted by the "rawness" of it. Well done!
How's the hero at 9:48 dropping in on the chick. Average behaviour M8.
I have a massive soft spot for BP. A few totally uncrowded sessions there, but never during a TC swell, of course.
Terrible crowd behaviour, but I’d still give it a go.
Any reports fro D.I. ?
Bribie island was all time... took the tinny out, doing step offs... my mate frittata got one that made billy kumps jaws wave look like dog shit... smashed some cans after that
Nice!
No claim Bonus for a Qldurr Floody Idiot...did we just see that?
Noosa is a deserved WSR title holder...great curtain raiser for Qld leg.
Qldurrz welcome any swellnet contraband

Ahhh wonder what 7 paid for it? Me thinks beer money.
Yeah not a big wrap for Noosa. Great set up and I had it pumping for week and a half in 91 and the crowd was even worse than in the clip. 120+ guys in the water. Pretty average wave except for the boiling pot section on which the odd one looks ridiculous. Hairy take off that close to the rocks and the locals have it dialed. That one guy who made it is a hero and didn't even claim it. Everybody bags bells but I reckon at a similar size low tide is just as good it not better as a total wave. Looks like the tide is pretty high.
was 91 betsy if so, many mammeries .Was still crowded then but that was an epic swell
Honestly if I had just caught that first wave in this clip I would call it a day.....and be stoked for a long time.
Kook city
News flash, every where is now days.......
The hero in the first pit dropped in on some poor sucker about 5 mins later . Might need to cancel his avengers membership.
The place everyone turns up when the waves are on.
Some fun looking waves,
Lots of turbulence and wash throughs........ec short period lucky dips
There were 2 waves around the 13 minutes, darn nice, didn’t think the crowd or drop ins were out of control, so many waves pushing through, that guy on the green board scored a few, pwcs?
Surfed the joint a bit years ago. But looking at the footage, it’s actually not that great a wave. Yes you can get a barrel, but most of them have the sweepy, gurgley face that lends it self to nothing other than a high line trim.
Looks fucking terrible.
Backwashy , lumpen , inappropriately overcrowded and disjointed.
Won’t stop the hype machine from turning it into the global day of days and inferring that you should be ashamed to admit you didn’t kick your granny in front of traffic to be attend the circus.
Have you surfed it? Fun as hell.
I’ll take BP over Macaronis any day, speaking of overhyped.
I’ve only been a couple of times. Never seen it above 1-2 feet.
Crazily beautiful place . Looks like a gift from Huey . One of those places which feels like it’s been especially designed by a higher power with surfers in mind.
Looks pretty shit in the vid though.
I was there around the turn of the year. At the peak of that cyclone swell BP was like onshore maccas but better.
Blowin, I had only watched it on my phone, but finally got to sit down and properly take it in on a bigger screen. Gotta agree with you, it's not that flash.
The Oma footage was unreal, and I seem to remember good stuff from the July E swell, too.
A few more look sees...of WSR 2020 dedication!
Dronegogo
Droneyoyo
Goslowpro
JW turned his nose up on all of them...
...apparently wasn't welcome at home break with his Tow-Ski
Friday JW got his ski over to Cylinders North Straddie..(Double Overhead)- 30 crew!
Nice quiet spot for a wrap!
Man I love that place and the waves suited the crowd with lots of random opportunities.
Just spent 30 mins wishing I was there. My favorite surf video this year , love watching average punters having a dig.The skis spoil it though, it had enough wobble without skis contributing. Just walk back and jump off like everyone else you lazy greedy buggers.
At lowish tide pretty much every wave was barreling at BP. This looks like it was shot at high tide.
Pretty sure that first ride is Harrison Roach.
Same wave different angle:
Couldn't watch it, what a shit wave & imagine waiting all year for that ahahah
Wasn't that bad. Considering the volume of surfers, the burnings I reckon were pretty minimal. Crowd seemed pretty well behaved. Agreed, a couple of people were a bit out of their depth out there.
Two memorable cyclone surfs there, Cyclone Bola late 80's and Betsy early 90's. Farking gorged myself on waves and anyone who says Noosa is a shit wave probs hasn't surfed it when it's heaving. It's as fun a wave as you could want.
I remember Bola well cause that night went to bed with an unusually crook back- woke up the next morning, bolted to hospital and had my appendix out that evening. Mate of mines brother by chance happened to be the surgeon.., he said he saved the rusty scalpel just for me. Good bloke.
BP is a soft wave compared to a number a breaks on the sunny coast. Lots of waves Id rather get good instead.
Care to name them Blow-in?
I can't think of a wave on the sunny coast I haven't surfed. Agree, there's some cracking waves on their days but when Noosa is pumping, it's a pretty fun wave.
On a public forum I'd rather not given I can still get many of them relatively uncrowded. Very much the kind of reefs that are big in booging land. Happy to name some privately.
now understand why clips have music and good clips have great music
tough crowd, surfed it in oma day 1 and this week Thursday and friday . great tides for morning and afternoon runs with naps in between.
had 2 waves from nationals to the sand at first point over the 2 days and might not of been as heavy as kirra but there was some serious smiles from our crew . thursday was way smaller and way too perfect with the angle and no opportunity to fade unless it was a blatant burn. see u in a couple more years!
Hectic, and so consistent. Getting caught inside would have been fun! Bit of a zoo though with some absolute kooks out there including the SUP flog.
Sometimes the Tassie points seem to be just as busy as that except it's mid-winter and 2 degrees and raining and hailing and everyone is so cold they are falling over themselves. Needless to say I'd froth on the Noosa version of it.
It is so great to watch unedited, raw footage of this sort of event. It feels like you are there..a punter on the shoreline gasping at potential tubes etc..he/she doesn't make it, move the viewing to the next potential. Freaking awesome. Well done Swellnet for making this public and untouched, and fuck you lucky mofos for getting such incredible waves while we play golf down here in Mexico while we have a delay in wave supply.
