Initial report:
"A YOUNG girl has been taken to Lismore Base Hospital with “a serious injury to her wrist” after a suspected shark attack at Lennox Head this afternoon.
A New South Wales Ambulance Service spokeswoman said “It is quite a significant injury”.
There are some reports the girl’s injury is so severe she may lose her hand.
Updated report:
A SUSPECTED shark attack at Lennox Head is now believed to be a mackerel bite.
Initial reports indicated it was a shark attack, closing the beach and prompting panic throughout the small beachside community.
Meanwhile a NSW police spokeswoman said the surfer had “a scratch on her thumb”.
