I hope by kicking up this stink it becomes the new Stand up kite Kayak capital of the world.
You don't own the wave, neither do I, neither does stumalben but everyone has the right to enjoy it.
Talking about the wave of the day couple back, Asher Pacer, seen him over at TOS the other day, no-one around and shredding his little Red Chilli Bin with twin fins looking like the full mode Hip__er.
Gold stuuf the fella rips.

Southey if there is a similar wave in WA I'm real keen too - as long as its not taken over by boogers as well.

Todays WOTD is awesome. FULL STOP.
Can't believe what THX would be feeling looking at that mountain of a section ahead in today's WOTD, amazing shot!
Is that a blush of teal in the middle? And I'm sure there's a shallow reef closeout down the line of that left
Dudes legally blind, hence the caption, pretty amazing.
I surfed with him in the Telos this year it was double overhead on sets and a wedgey straight topped drop not hollow or heavy by any means but still sold and peeling off pretty fast and I've seen guys take them to far and get hurt on the inside.
He was paddling and caching waves and even kind of doing turns, the surf guide had to help him telling him when and where to paddle to catch waves as the wave was coming, but still it was pretty amazing, i guess he must just see shadows or rough shapes etc
I didn't talk to him but heard him telling the surf guide how he kind of feels what the wave was doing explaining it all in a bit of detail and the surf guide was telling me a bit about him.
Was also a girl out there surfing who was legally blind too but it seemed like she could see things much better than him.
Crazy shit full respect for the guy, imagine how scary and vulnerable you must feel in that situation.
There's a movie called 'Beyond Sight' about Derek Rabelo, a blind Brazilian surfer who has a goal to get barrelled. It's all feelgood, overcoming adversity-type stuff, then there's a quick cut to Kelly Slater who pours a teaspoon of cold water on the whole thing.
"How does he know he's getting barrelled?" Slater asks. No answer is given and, for me at least, that question lingered longer than the movie itself.
Rabelo is profoundly blind, he can't see anything. Surfing to him is all hearing and touch. He took some big hits in the movie as he was utterly unaware of things happening even very close to him. Even if he was in a barrel, he wouldn't have known it.
Formston, who can see shapes in his peripheral vision, is in a different camp. From what I can gather he can sense the changing shape of a wave and hence would have 'some' ability to react, and also take in his surroundings.
I haven't seen the video yet but I'm surprised he was whipped into a right - towards the rocks. Not sure if he wiped out during the session, but like Indo said, full respect for someone who can keep themselves calm when they're so vulnerable. Waves on one side, rocks on the other, and a ski rider...somewhere.
How dare You ...... :-(
