Supafreak. Hi mate. Hope you and your family are well.

Unilever deserve it, one very ordinary company who is busted often, price gouging, especially here in Oz.
Mind you , in my opinion X is also a very ordinary entity. AW

I get that many dont like Musk but thats such a weird thing to say after all he bought twitter because his beliefs are it was being misused, sure you dont need to agree with him but it clearly wasn't a money making business decision, if he just wanted to make more money he could invest in all kind of safe bets.

Then many of his other business are pretty positive Tesla basically made EV's cool them ypu have the household batteries and you also have his Starlink thing that also brings internet to a lot of people that wouldn't otherwise have it.

BTW. Most people aren't like Guy and are going to not buy a car or household battery based on not liking Musk those kind of people would be rare, most people wouldn't even know or care much about what musk says or does, but yeah the EV & household battery market is only going to get more competitive and you would expect Tesla will lose a lot of market share as time goes on, Musk might not even be the richest dude in the world next year, i dint think he will care too much.

Not sure about Teslas being cool, new they keep dropping in price, used market has tanked.
You would be peeved if you bough one a few years ago.
There's a charging station near out main shopping centre, couldn't think of anything worse travelling than have to go in there while waiting lol ;)

Just bought a brand new car this week, didn't even look at EV's or even hybrids.

The amount of Telsas going around here now is crazy, not sure if im just noticing them more or it has to do with lots of Melbourne crew moving in over Covid.

I have a friend that has a Tesla and its an insane care, so quite, so modern and the pick up is crazy, but they are crazy expensive and you cant just take them to your local mechanic you need to take them to a Tesla place

Id love an EV any EV the amount of money you save on fuel is crazy and charging is really not a big deal most just top up overnight.

Ive looked at second hand EVs just for the missus, but they are so expensive even second hand and when i looked the tech from model to model became outdated quickly(range etc), id expect that has improved and will only keep improving as they reach a ceiling like TVs did.

BTW. This isn't aimed at you ashsam but i find the whole anti EV's anti renewables thing with most conservative's really silly, its purely ideology based, i find that silly being like that makes you as bad as those on the left.

ha ha apparently Guy says im predictable on my positions, again this is another area where i dont tow the typical conservative line.

ashsam's picture
ashsam's picture
ashsam Sunday, 11 Aug 2024 at 8:30am

My Mrs has a Suzuki swift no need for a EV, does 100k's a week lol.
I travel up and down the east coast and west for work and family, EV wouldn't work. Even though we have solar.
I am not anti EV, it's just not there yet for rural living, when you can stop and fill up in more places like fuel, and not wait forever ok.
If you never leave a city mostly sure.

You don't need a EV to get modern Tech, my new car is nuts has everything.
If I had of got the hybrid version it's exactly the same but no spare tyre cause that's where the battery is, you get a puncture repair kit lol ;)
Flap that.

Yeah thats the thing when i looked a few years back an equivalent of something like a Suzuki swift in an EV was like 30+K new and secondhand like 20k but you could get new petrol hatch backs for less than that and decent second hand ones with low k's for about 10K, so its hard to justify spending that money at this stage on an EV.

If the prices were similar or even 5K difference in second hand market then yeah it would be more tempting.

BTW. Missus has actually had a few Suzukis since being in oz, all have been great reliable cars with barely any issues.

Most people if they are in the market for a car are going to buy a car based on meaningful things like tech, range, price etc

The people that aren't going to buy an Telsla based on Musk that might have the money are people like you, and they are rare fringe nutters.

And you can bet almost all those on social media claiming they are boycotting Tesla because of musk or whatever are uni student/activist that wont be able to afford one for another 15 years anyway unless their rich mum and dad buy them one.

dont like elon

and love to hate on tesla's...

but friends got one

bottom line is they are bloody good cars with a phenomenal warranty

build appears a bit tinny, but the tech., set up, and comfort are good

fucked if I'd buy one, not suitable, and expensive, but with current price drop now pretty economical I imagine...

they are great if you only drive around city, and if you can charge them overnight running household solar as my friend does, essentially free to run

however, there's still a lot of toss factor, as I imagine still largely manufactured using fossil fuels

pretty funny elon's 'girlfriend' AOC drives one...

but tbh, if you are gonna buy an electric car... what else would you buy?

some shitty chinese thing or a nissan leaf?

with such decisions, I imagine you would pay in the long run

They bullshitted about the range...
"CEO Elon Musk and other Tesla executives did so in a statement that acknowledged “false/exaggerated advertising.” Other recent studies have found that some Tesla EVs average 26% of their advertised ranges, says Reuters."
26% of fuck all is really fuck all.
If you take it to a non tesla mechanic, even to bleed the brakes or change the pads, it fucks the warranty.
They are fkn dangerous reversing in supermarket carparks, you can't hear them.
They are "tinny", expensive and look like shit.
That Tesla Cybertruck is probably the ugliest, stupidest looking car ever built. on par with the DeLorean, probably worse.
You can't use aftermarket parts, Tesla parts only and they are fkn expensive.
They have shit resale value, 30% off year on year...
"A recent analysis by iSeeCars.com has put things into perspective. The study looked at over 1.8 million used cars sold and found that on average, Tesla vehicles are depreciating at a much faster rate compared to other brands. Specifically, the study shows that Tesla models are losing value almost 30% year-over-year.12 Mar 2024".
Elon Musk is the worlds biggest dickhead, a ketamine junkie according to his estranged daughter, a fkn weirdo, a danger to democracies world wide, he's absolutely fucked twitter, posts insane rubbish himself, has a twelve year olds sense of humour, google "Elon dancing" and tell me you would buy a car off that dickwad.
I wouldn't piss on a Tesla if it was on fire, which has a decent chance of happening.
I could go and buy two cars that were engineered in the era when manufacturers made cars that would last decades if you service and maintain them, which most of I could do myself, that I can get parts cheap from anywhere, that I can get a mechanic to work on anywhere, that actually appreciate in value depending on the car, and put petrol in them for the life of them, and still come out with plenty of $ ahead of the ticket price of a tesla.
There are way better electric car options coming on to the market, better builds and mileage ranges.
Teslas will be redundant shit boxes I predict in five or so years from now.
No one will want one. I know two Tesla owners who got rid of theirs, one because it's steering went to shit and he could buy a replacement car for less than the tesla price of repairs,(warranty expires after 50,000 k's) the other because he was "embarrassed" to drive a Musk car.
Shitboxes. Nice to drive when new, but a waste of money and no mileage range.
If you run out of battery you're fucked, stranded. If you run out of petrol, just get some fuel and away you go, you can't keep a spare battery charger in a gerry can.
Lots of people own and love them, but not my kind of car, and definitely not my kind of guy that is the face of them.

"Tesla Model Y overtakes Toyota Corolla as world’s best-selling car

Months after the Toyota HiLux lost the top sales spot in Australia to the Ford Ranger, the Toyota Corolla has lost its global sales crown – and for the first time, an electric car has taken the top spot.

After almost two decades, the Toyota Corolla has been dethroned as the world's best-selling car.

The Tesla Model Y has taken the top spot on the sales chart, outselling the Corolla in 2023 as the world's most popular passenger car – the first time in history for an electric car.

According to data released by Jato Dynamics, Tesla sold a total of 1.22 million Model Y vehicles across the globe in 2023 – an increase of 64 per cent year-on-year.

In Australia, a total of 28,769 buyers chose the Tesla Model Y last year – enough for the car to take out sixth position in the local top 10 – but data showed it was actually the number one choice for private buyers, once vehicle sales for businesses, fleets, rental cars, and governments were taken out of the equation."

That range is top range with 100% battery charge too, but apparently its recommend to only charge to 80% for longer battery life.

Id love to see one of these in real life they look pretty mad, id much prefer the back in a panel van shape though.

No way I'm watching that eight-hour interview but it was bemusing/disturbing watching the way Elon used up and spat out Matt Taibbi over the whole Twitter Files thing. Deeply ironic that Taibbi's podcast was called 'Useful Idiots' as he was played like a fool, even admitted in screenshots he shared that he "refrained from criticizing" Elon, so you can toss out any notion of balanced reporting from Taibbi forthwith.

Other things you can toss out:

'Elon Musk the free speech absolutist'. He'll shadowban and censor who he likes.
'Elon understands misinformation'. He shared fake news reports of British riots.
'Complaining about Democratically-aligned media'. Elon has his hands on more powerful levers than the WaPo and NYT combined.
