A year ago the media and (so called) experts were saying it didn't escape from a lab, but the narrative in a lot of media does seem to be changing and many have ruled out the wet market theory.
This guy (in vids) is an advisor to the WHO and on face value seems fairly credible https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Metzl
He seems to believe that Covid did escape from a lab, which off course China would never admit even if it did, and any investigation they have allowed has basically been as you expect very controlled.
BTW. Just because it appears to have come together naturally doesn't mean it didn't escape from a lab, it could have been a virus they collected in wild and were studying.
Really what are the chances that of all areas of China it has sprung up in the area where there just happens to be the Institute of Virology laboratory that studies say 2 type viruses.
