How to get to Indonesia this year (2020).

The MP has been packed since the day this whole thing started

Its time for a Hans Tholstrup journey
Darwin to Indo in a Runabout...

Agree to a degree...
Let's see how full they are after organised sport goes back. In NSW that's this weekend, not sure about timing for the other states.
Right now, surfing is still one of the few sports that's legal, but it'll change real soon.

Staff travel, lucky me

Cold,dark and lonely......
No tropical waves, mango juice's,coconuts, massages, karaoke bars, catching up with friends from around the globe.
Going to get fatter now I'm missing my annual weight loss program of tropic sweating with a bout of diarrhea.
I gave away my last 2packs of Gudang Garams in January!
I'm already in full depression!!!!!!

Local crowds should drop, bugger it I’m hoping so, when the universities fully reopen to AU students. Given the likely deep recession there will be more at uni

Fuck it, I'm buying a cheap yacht............

Just jumped on skyscanner and you can get a 600 dollar flight to Bali from Brisbane via Perth. Surely if you really wanted to you could organize a temporary visa permit and fly over there now. Or are those flights subject to change with minimal notice. I need me some mentawaii action haha.

What dates you got ? - there are no flights

https://www.skyscanner.com.au/transport/flights/bne/dps/200721/?adultsv2...
This was the cheapest with minimal notice but there is also flights tomorrow. Surely if you had the time, coin and someone over there to help with the visa approval (I have all three) you could get it done.

Check your Dates

"If you are an Australian citizen or a permanent resident you cannot leave Australia due to COVID-19 restrictions unless you have an exemption. You can apply online but you must meet at least one of the following:"
Read the list here: https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/leaving-australia
Hint: Surfing isn't on there.

"you are travelling on compassionate or humanitarian grounds "
For the compassion of my mental state? No?
Damn.. :(

Gang dammit. Prisoners in our country, now I know how the first fleet felt. I guess this thread is redundant then.

Bali ocean water quality must be getting better without Hotels emptying there untreated Sewage to Sea..

With family and investment in Indonesia, i could possibly get out of Australia and get a temporary visa to get into Indo.
But the aspect that would really suck is when you return having to quarantine in an Aussie hotel and having to pay for it, if it was free you could maybe force yourself through it, but if it was two weeks, that's two weeks of work you are missing and then needing to pay for two weeks in an Aussie hotel wouldn't be cheap.
But if this does keep going into 2021, I'm going to work my arse off over summer and try to make it happen.

ID, it’s paid for. Room service as well.
Go surf your brains out somewhere that’s normally busy, then come home and upload all your photos and stories here with your spare time

Hmm seems you are right, they were only talking about charging people. (in media a few weeks ago)

Hmmm I wonder how long that will last.
Just today the Qld government advised "Anyone who has travelled from Victoria and enters Queensland from this Friday, including Queenslanders, will have to quarantine at their own expense for 14 days."
Ouch, expensive room service I'd say.
But I could see this becoming adopted as a national approach as part of 're-opening'.....whenever and whatever that looks like internationally.
Talk about dis-incentive to travel overseas.

I think I read somewhere it’s about 4.5k for the 2 weeks

I think by Xmas we will have a better idea of what’s going to happen, once Europe opens up a bit more, many countries will be watching what happens IMO

They’ve talked about ending the allowance at some stage but I don’t think that’s happened yet. Maybe September?

Interesting article shorey.
"Professor McLaws said a purpose built quarantine station may be needed for future arrivals to prevent outbreaks at quarantine hotels as was seen in Melbourne.
"It may be safer for the general community to have them placed somewhere where it is comfortable, have greater space for recreation but also less risk to the general community via workers," she said."
Imagine a world where if you travelled overseas and then when you returned you would have to spend 2 weeks in a purpose built quarantine station?
Yea nah, that sounds pretty shite....

Quite frankly and being from Vic, I cant believe how shite a place Australia appears to be right now.
The absolute Covid paranoia I read about when comparing numbers against other countries and the number of deaths in Oz is ridiculous.
And not being able to leave the country??? Till next year? WTF is that?
As for quarantine on entry, didn't the Govt spend up on an App? Why not enforce Oz citizens on arrival to download and remain at home to be monitored rather than a
hotel? If breached = big fine?? Make testing mandatory perhaps?
Enforce social distancing, limited numbers in shops restaurants and supermarkets, wearing of masks for staff serving the public, etc.
Instead Oz is a giant Gestapo camp.
Wasn't the initial lock down designed to "flatten the curve" so that hospitals and
intensive care units weren't overwhelmed?
So thats been achieved and now what? Theres a few more numbers of infections but whose dying? Or even getting that crook?
I could go on...
Sure hope the whole shit show resolves itself before Xmas

Tow this girl up to Broome and your 1/2 way there...

Or you could go next level with a few friends and chip in for this beauty, which is already at Broome ready to go.....

Looks like a reverse of the boat people situation about to happen. You dont want a flash boat or they will send you back. You want something that will make it there then shit itself. Can you make the Gilligan defense of a pleasure cruise from Broome to Christmas Island that hit a storm, next thing you know you're stranded in the playgrounds?

Yeah too funny!I've been thinking there's going to be a reverse of the boat people smuggling to Indo.Where do i sign up??

Wonder if the Ruby Princess could get onboard?

Hi

One positive is they don’t surf haha and they never will. Just need to petition there government to ban Brazzos.

Indonesia and Australia have always had a very special connection and I’m not talking about the Bali bogans. The surfers who visit to enjoy the people, the waves and the contrast between the police state we live in. Fuck I miss indo.

Non Indonesian Chinese cant buy land in Indo they can only lease like other foreigners and why would anyone build a shopping mall at Ht's (Katiet)?
Local population at katiet is tiny and locals have little money and charter boats buy all their stuff in Padang where it's cheaper only market would be for resorts/camps/losmens there is a few in that area now, but nothing compared to playgrounds area or even Telescopes area
I havent been to Katiet for a while but i expect like anywhere things are slowly developing, a house that sells a few things, updates and becomes a shop that sells basics, then they extended and sell more stuff etc.
But Shopping mall?
No sorry you might be thinking of a proposal for some big mainstream tourist development in South Siberut area that most likely had shops in it, but doubt it would go ahead.
The Mentawais are growing pretty fast especially Tua Pajet area but it doesn't have much to do with surfing, it more to do with people from mainland moving there because there is fairly cheap land compared to mainland, fair bit of farming starting to happen inland on Sipora mostly big banana plantations etc lot of new roads happening too, not little roads either.
As far as resort development, charter boats etc this whole thing will be reset especially if it drags on and slow any development in regard to surfing tourism right down.
If it goes on we will definitely see prices drop as competition for guest increases, might even see some camps or resorts shut down, defietetly be a few for sale, same for charter boats, most likely they will be the first to go on the market.

Saffers are cool to. They can be tight but they have to be, there currency is dirt. Where does the world go from here is kind of interesting but it isn’t going to be good. The internet and smart phones will become a means to track your every movement.

Sorry indo dreaming you have your head in the sand my man.

Sigh

Try

Hey Ben you should add the ability to send personal messages to other users. Just an idea.

Nigh

Yeah well there is lots of silly rumours around, but a shopping mall with no-one to actually buy anything is kind of pointless and would be destined to failure.
A big resort aimed at non surfing guest in the Maldives/Thailand/Bali mould i could believe, but this whole Covid thing reduces the likely hood of that happening anytime soon, and the governments focus on developing tourism is focussed on other areas..
The problem with the Mentawai's for mainstream tourism is the risk of Tsunami and earthquakes is very real, it's much more active for some reason than places like Bali, Mentawais regularly have little quakes and they have predicted a very big one, they say its going to happen, they just dont know when.
For surfers we dont care as much, we just go where the waves are and will take risk, but mainstream tourist are much more fickle and much easier scared off by possibility of a quake or tsunami.

BTW Nice pic

Iso got me going crazy. Please don’t delete my posts.

Is that you Nong? HBD dudette!

Personally, I loved the way that Indonesia disappeared off most peoples radar for a few months. The exact same waves were breaking but they weren’t broadcast around the world as a stage for everyone who hasn’t wanted to pay for their boardshorts and deck grip.
No live streaming of sessions . No daily feeds of exactly who did what and where.
Insta influencers weren’t posting shots of themselves perched above the cliffs at Nusa Penida.
It was very refreshing knowing that a few lucky punters were getting quietly shacked whilst the rest of us momentarily turned our collective gaze inwards.
Something I’ve been hoping for over quite some time now.
Like a tree falling in the forest , do great waves still break when they’re not being plundered by surf camps , tour operators and yoga/ surf retreats ?
Yes !
Swellnetters,
There must be some way to get to Indonesia this year? Can you jump on a boat from Darwin? Can you fly there on the pretense of something other than surfing? Gotta be something...
