^^ Opti & Info, if you hold those views you need to seriously and honestly ponder at what stage or point along the spectrum of religious tolerance to intolerance do ordinary god (whatever god worshipped) believing people turn into zealots prepared to turn a blind eye to injustice toward believers of a different god and so on until we see what happened in Tibet, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Africa, Afghanistan, FMD Gaza and the ME in general and historically what Christian explorers and missionaries did in the new worlds?? At some point along that spectrum people flip and hence my view believing your god is all powerful etc etc is extremely dangerous, we have human history and current day events proving it so, a real god of love and forgiveness would unite people not divide. Ultimately its an extremist position.

He’s a good example though lol
I will never vote liberal again cause of that tosser.
The media always got it wrong though he didn’t go to Hillsong church, he was at one of their conferences.
Goes to a church in the shire.

People can be religious extremist in that they live and breath religion 24/7 and adhere by things very strictly and certainly think that the only way to heaven is through their religion/god, but still also be completely tolerant and respectful of others religion's.
And people can also barely practice a religion and not follow the teachings as they should and still be extremely intolerant of others religions and try to force their beliefs on others or even worse.
So there is not really a point and some religions are more intolerant of other religions than others.
There are 1.9 billion muslims in the world that follow a religion stuck in the dark ages.
Let's be super kind and say only 1% of them are extremists.
scary shit. but yeah Christians..
You mean 1% that let the world know they are extremists.
I adore the dark ages, bonza.. (late antiquity, specifically) this is a misnomer that gsco makes, a common misunderstanding about post-roman-empire europe.
it got waaaaayy scarier in the middle ages, once the monotheisms got hold and shut down free-thinking.
by then, there were about two-dozen people left in europe, they were all lead-ridden and related.
then most died out from horrible diseases. And the vengeful god, and men in tall hats ruled the roost. And people trembled and hurt each other. the only way out of this control, was centuries of irreverent debauchery and revolt, driven by the plebs and select elites.
I compared hardline-islam to victorian-england christianity to RK, I still think it is valid, in terms of its human rights, and social norms.. fucked up shit. no doubt.
but if one of 'them' (choose a modern hardline-musim, or victorian-christian) took a drive through las vegas, or the backstreets of vancouver.. i reckon they might think this all-shining, christian/western/capitalist caper has a few wrinkles yet to iron out, before they abandon their fucked up shit, for our fucked up shit.
again, really good series;
(jesus, isis, horus, zeus, all in perspective.. we create god in the image of what we need god to be.)
beautifully creative and tragically destructive, we humans.
I have no idea what you just said
sorry @bonza, RK = @roadkill
You’re talking in tongues. Arguing with your self. Victorian Christians were demonstrably more progressive than the Islamic teachings of today. This is the era of Charles Darwin ffs. What enlightenment has occurred in Islam since the crusades? Are you seriously trying to equate the societal lost and capitalism economy to a global death cult religion practised by nearly 2 billion people?
nope.
Geez Bonza, you’re proving my point about extremist religious belief, so applying your logic, what % of Jews are Zealots/Zionists who are turning a blind eye to the inhuman loss of innocent Palestinians in Gaza? Please don’t answer my rhetorical question highlighting your personal bias. By the way our neighbours are Muslim and their daughters both graduated with honours one in law the other in economics and both live and work independently overseas … yeah but no progress, more bullshit
BasesixJellyGuy, isn’t your Marxism an extremist religion? And an aggressive one at that….and we see that character in your posts….Tow the party line or else?
In Christianity you are free to take it or leave it…to believe or not to believe.
Any who do not practise that are frauds ……like the Vatican during the dark ages and still today only covertly.
Your custom made communist god does not allow freedom of thought….and while you criticise other free nations and people as extreme, you should probably have a good look at your utopia called China…..

Do you struggle with math generally?
I agree Opti, I have beliefs about religion as much as the next person, but I don't waste a lot of time arguing about it. Live and let live. I probably do arc up a bit when people judge others condescendingly. Your faith is fine if it works for you, I've been generous and polite to you, you have been quite rude to me at times, which I don't mind, you're a pretty strange cat.
I do like to experience things openly. I love history as much as you claim to: as I said to you once, I had a lovely time in Mainz, researching the Wulfilabibel and the Greek/Gotisch translations. I love sacred choral music of compsers from Hildegard, Tallis and Byrd to Arvo Part, Taverner and NZs Clare Mclean. I make points of visiting places like Lindisfarne and Iona. To me, its all fascinating and an important part of my cultural heritage, the olden days, and early social thinking and philosophy
I stay with friends in the Outer Hebrides regularly and pay thanks to Our Lady of the Sea on Sundays and before each surf. Unlike you, I don't mind JWs, I learned everything I know about building with limestone from a 70 year-old stonemason who was a JW, As we built together I hung stick on him while he explained his whacko beliefs... whatever. Live and let live. Enjoy your day Opti, remember to be kind to others, no matter what they believe.

Guess you don’t get them knocking on your door most Saturdays
What’s with this Marxist label opti? As in Obamacare being Marxist ? Is it interchangeable with being accused of being, god forbid, woke? Anyhow when it comes to my Marxs I prefer Groucho
ashsam wrote:Guess you don’t get them knocking on your door most Saturdays
i do, maybe every 6 months (I live on a bushblock with 500m driveway, so i'm always impressed) I just steer the convo to my stonemason friend, who has now passed, and what a good builder he was. they leave their guff alone, once they know you knew one of them, dunno why.
a song of faith for Opti from the Marxists:
Its pretty crazy when you start digging into the history of the abrahamic religions.
Judaism was the first and dates back to 1800 BCE
Christianity is really just a Judaism off shoot started after Jesus death about 30 to 50 CE
Islam basically came out of the two much latter about 610 CE
So without Judaism there is no Christianity or Islam, but then Judaism actually has roots in an ancient Canaanite religions like Yahwism.
Which was more a series of deitys about 60 of them different gods for different things
Yahweh was the creator diety and really the root of Judaism which makes sense, the Torah is basically just the old testament and starts with the whole Genesis creation thing.
Id expect before that things developed out of a more animistic beliefs like most Indigenous tribal people.
I never had faith to start with, but learning more about the roots of these religions it's harder to even ever believe they clearly all really just evolved through a process and then you just get one or two guys like Jesus & Muhammad put a spin on things, but lets be real they were both likely just very charismatic people with some type of mental health disorder, basically like any cult leaders.
Humans pondering , writing about and worshipping THEIR , Self designed Religious Deity's IS always interesting .
I adore people , like Base 6 , who really check it out closely !
A bit like thinking about Good V Evil , Love V Hate , perhaps ?
A FNP Person can Love a Big Snake but a Cobra will freak out a Christian .
When Religion was passed from mouth 2 mouth , it could easily Evolve with the Times .
Seems that Writing The Rules of a Religion , in the Proverbial Stone , has caused some problems as Times have changed and the Tablets haven't .
In China , Maoism , was Their Religion and now its Xiism .
All Written down in the Red Book , 4 the people 2 Follow ( no dissenters or Free religion ) .
The ONE thing I have real FAITH in , is that EVERY Human who thinks they HAVE worked Out the Creator , have got IT wrong .
No HUMAN can Imagine , so define , MY Universal Spirit .
I think I would B crazy 2 try !
I thought it Crazy 2 Chat with MY US , as IT is so fn busy doing stuff , and would NOT B wanting a Chat with Me .
Was told 2 try it anyway and now say the Serenity Prayer , all the bloody time .
It DOES make ME feel a bit better , somehow ( a miracle , perhaps haha ) .
Opti's view , is probably , closer or close , as ANY 1's imho
I have NFI what's happening or going on , but very happy 2 bumble along , 2 my Uni Spirits beat .
So , will have a wild Guess and say ALL religions have some GOOD advice and some advice that's NOT so good .
Really GOOD , Human Stuff ( as Good as it gets :))) .
If U Hate Religion , focus on it , if U love Religion , U don't need 2 .
I need 2 do the opposite , all the time , nearly :)

Nice post, B6.
The Basic Instincts of Any Animal Species , never changes .
Human behaviour is , like a Lion's , based on Needs and Wants .
I have a Conscious that is different to a Genghis Khan , a Trump or a Dali Lama .
Religions have a hard time dealing with Human instincts and should help us think like real Lions , more often imho .
We should do more Living like a Lion and Less , thinking about , Being Like and acting like , a Creator !
Indo, ..Jesus brought dead people back to life, cleansed untold lepers , healed all the sick people, told off the priests who were supposed to represent Him ( God the son the visible one) and fed thousands of people with a kids lunch, turned water into gallons of the best wine for a wedding .. walked across the sea…etc etc etc.
These are the things that kinda got peoples attention and made Him famous in just over 3 years……the worlds solution……he's too out there let’s kill Him…
…..but that didn’t work either.

Opti, do you 100% believe Jesus brought dead people back to life?
100% and all in public….even one of his old mates Laz.
And after 3 years he pissed off back into the sky to rejoin the holy trinity never to do a bloody thing ever again. Oh geez, thanks Jesus you bludger. Best early retirement plan ever.
Optimist wrote:100% and all in public….even one of his old mates Laz.
Why do you feel the need to stay in this thread when it’s basically people abusing you and screaming at you?
I have done that to you previously but have no need to try and force what I think on you, or try and chat your beliefs? I kinda woke up to not needing to be part of the pile on.
Do you want to convince people about your god? Is there an element of spreading the word in you staying here and taking abuse day after day?

Of course you are free to believe these things happened, but i dont believe these things happened, i think they are likely stories based on events that have been greatly exaggerated, like that fish we all got to the boat and then got away.
Even today Christians believe they get healed by laying of hands etc, and i think in some cases the self belief and positivity helps in how people feel or even bring some change, the mind can be a powerful thing, but if it was true we would now see it reflected in studies and science.
BTW. I read that the other day too only did his thing for a few years?
Hmmm interesting i dont get this?
He was suppose to be so special from birth, Mary a virgin, the whole kings bringing cool stuff etc
Then he just kicks around being a carpenter and fisherman (we would have gotten on really well)
Why did he wait until his late 20's to do the whole preaching thing?
Is it explained in the bible or elsewhere?.
Opti, you're never going to get anywhere with anyone on here.
I’m not here for the abusers and I’m immune to it after many years.
I’m here for the quiet ones, the ones that read and ponder life’s big picture.
For the people that consider the wonders of Gods creation and can feel that there is more and they are made for more……that’s all.
And many men and women ,famous or unknown , far greater in spirit than you and I , have found the connection to God through His son Jesus the Christ and done great things to not only make the world a better place through divine inspiration but for the inner peace that passes all understanding.
U are so cool Opti but maybe U ARE here 4 the Abusers and the Noisey Ones .
I am pretty noisey and I like reading your posts .
That the Abusers are STILL reading THIS Thread and your posts , their Brains are still taking IN your words and they sure Feel The Need , 2 keep coming back , funny that and it's Not even Sunday :) !!!
Also really Funny , that Anyone can doubt that HE created Miracles , during his time with US .
Maybe a gazillion people weren't Fed buy ONE loaf of Bloody Bread , but the fact I am writing HIS name Jesus Christ 2000 years later , sure is a Miracle .

Hmmm…mass murder at Bondi Junction in Sydney.
Chances it’s related to the Israel/ Gaza deal seems to be an obvious thing ? Lots of Jewish crew live in that area.

I get it but you are just some random typing away on a forum, easy target to be made fun of.
Not like face to face where people actually get to know you.
Gee been watching NRL didn’t even know what happened, just found out my step daughter was going to go there shopping but her boyfriend didn’t want to deal with the traffic.
Shocking.

Ashsam, many thousands on the east coast know me face to face but on here as stunet says …Im just some entity.
Anyway I’m just some entity who is certain of what I’m saying…experience trumps everything but starts in faith.
Many years and highs and lows in churches much like yourself….great churches where I thrived eventually going corporate copying Hillsong and then the downhill run.
In come the ponzey schemers, the unspiritual, and the greedy gainers all doing everything Jesus and the apostles said not to do.
But….dont give up on God Ash….he’ll never give up on you. And we don’t have the right to abandon He who loves us and laid down His life for us…..find a new church crew….or go everywhere like me…..and…all the best.

Okay i will give it a watch, i didn't only cause that whole dark ages/medieval era and all that European Christianity era stuff makes me depressed its just so cold wet and dark feeling.

haha, yeh, feels swampy and dank conceptually don't it? Lots went on though.. lest we forget.. and whatever the high-art commissions trend was, reflects the thoughts of the time..

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS…..
The basis of all laws…….
1) You shall have no other gods before God.
2) You shall not make yourself an idol nor bow down to it.
3) You shall not take the Lords name in vain.
4) Remember the sabbath the 7th day and rest ..keep it Holy.
5) Honour your Father and mother that you may live long on the earth.
6) You shall not Murder.
7) You shall not commit adultery.
8) You shall not steal.
9) You shall not testify or give a false witness against your neighbour.
10) You shall not covet your neighbours things, nor their house ,nor their wife / husband nor anything that is your neighbours….
Moses brought these laws to the people and gave the ground rules for a good life.
Jesus later summed it up in 2 laws…..
1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and all your mind.
2) Love your neighbour as yourself.
Jesus pointed out that ….
.If you love God who made you ….and also ..
…If you do unto others as you would have them do unto you,…
… you would never break any of those 10 commands…..It would be a natural act

You can post anything you like about your beliefs...and no one has to read it unless they want! Easy peasy...
maybe you could even get Jesus, fat Buddha, Mohammed, and friends to converse in adult conversation here
