Hi Team,

Long time reader, first time contributor.

Just chasing the general forum mafias take on what i'm calling the reverse evolution of surfing aka jet ski assisted 4-6ft barrels?

ill start, i think its shiite. my main grievances comes not from jet skis themselves (as I feel there is def a time and place for them in surfing, especially the safety side of big wave surfing) but more so people towing whilst others are attempting to paddle (successfully or unsuccessfully I don't care) and the fact that it seems to be a practice mainly undertaken by the bookends of the surfing community ("kooks" & "pros") .

its enough to make an HONEST BALTER MAD...

Interested to know peoples thoughts?

Cheers.

yes I am Udo, but in saying that I'm not overly concerned about the legalities of it, ill leave that to the water rats, more so chasing public opinion on the topic. what do you think? is winning a wave the only option or should we leave the sticky yellow tape in the dressing room?

Unlike Kirra recently, the skis were justified on this day, at this spot. 99% unsurfable otherwise.

Iv'e been out a few times when they have been buzzing around in the capes region. At one of the bombies before catching waves they actually asked me if it was OK for them to tow in while I was paddling. I know at Cow if they paddle it, they won't tow. Generally I only see them tow breaks that crew are not paddling into.

IMO Eugene if 1% are make-able and there are paddlers in the water having a go jet skis should not be there. Dangerous, noisy and smelly, a real blight on surfing in Australia atm when the rest of the world is shunning the use of skis

Totally illegal, another example of pro heroes doing as they please in sake of a photo, WA skippers ticket states 200m from other water users (re surfers) 8knots otherwise. Might be the start of some anti jet ski sentiment (again)which sucks for those who follow the rules and generally careful in not towing when paddlers are surfing in the south west .Regardless of the regulations towing through any paddling surfers (even if they arnt as good as you) is a greedy fuckwit act

The other day surfing there was two really fat old guys tow-surfing the wave. and also at same time a few surfers was having a paddle at the little wave. The driver was very fat and wore a camouflage full wetsuit, and the fat bellied guy getting towed was barking orders at the driver. Couldn't believe that it was really happening it was so absurd they didnt hold back either!

theres a guy that gets around illawarra that has a motorized surfboard/jetski-hybrid thing. i find this one of the most offensive things having this c#$t zipping around whilst there is literally about 15km of empty beach to the south where he can zip around to his hearts delight and not bother those in the lineup.

They often have camera crews with them for posting images for money and ego. Take your cameras and drones, don't shoot surf ,but film the perps. Then send it to the authorities with rego numbers visible.

Oh yeah fees I'm no fan of em, its far too dangerous , high powered jet skis in the hands of idiots (in some cases) all jacked up and foaming at the mouth.

A long time ago we were wronged by some bogans on jetskis in the surf. we went to the boat ramp and found their trailer. They ended losing their licence plate and all their electrical wiring ended up in short sections. But we were only groms having fun. Ive got a cordless grinder now.
If you cut the underside of the main beam just back from hitch but not all the way through, they can reverse it on the ramp. It will most likely fail when fully weighted and roll back into the drink.

Sorry mate but sabotage is the act of a coward. And a 300kg jetski could do some damage to someone you didn't intend it to . I hate dickheads who misuse jetskis as much as the next bloke . I also despise dickheads who can't drive , doesn't mean i'd suggest cutting their brake line.

On planet Spuddups jet ski users are arrested, tortured and then executed by firing squad at dawn. It seems harsh but the jetski problem has all but disappeared.
