Looking likely to have a few spare days in Japan late this year and thought I might spend them in Okinawa.

Anyone have any tips / advice / experience?

Thanks in advance ...

I was there last year but in April, out of season. I can't comment on the surf because there wasn't any but I was unimpressed by the place. Lots of US military so it hardly felt like Japan at all. On the positive side the US presence means that there is a lot more English spoken than most parts of Japan which makes things easier. We found a cheap flat right on the beach on Airbn'b and rented a car. There's a thriving second hand trade in US military surplus as well as clothes and odds and ends the servicemen couldn't be bothered taking home, if that interests you. Some interesting cultural sites but nothing like Kyoto.

Thanks bb. One thing I’d like to do if possible is to go where the US soldiers aren’t. Definitely interested in surf rather than US military surplus stuff
