He certainly should be able to get some assistance till he is able to get some medical assistance. There is a sickness allowance, so this should be a start. From my understanding is that once you are on DSP (disability) then there is no process to move off it. But this will be changing.

Is on Newstart i think and would be covered by unfit/unable to work Doc certificate so does have a payment.
