Sri Lanka in March
.
Pretty much anywhere south of Hikka will do the trick. Rams at Midigama is cheap with a little right barrel out the front. Cabalana just north of there has a fun beachie rebound of a big rock. Polhena is another quieter spot. Just head south with a driver and explore. Need a reliable guide email dunstansurf@hotmail.com - a total gentleman and one of Sri Lanka's first surfers.
Mirissa is a really nice little spot with a few guest houses and fresh fish straight off the boat if you're there on the right day. Has a wave down along the point too. Mind you, this was 2003, pre-tsunami, so things will have changed since then.s
Fuck mate, pre 2003 you could have surfed Keramas solo.
Maybe it hasn't changed though ?
As someone that just shared a lineup with a young surfer from the Czech Republic that wouldn't shut her beautiful mouth about how much Bali has changed for the worse since she moved there due to an influx of learners.....I hope it hasn't.
Crg is on the money. Kabalana and the Ahangama stretch has some fun waves. Kabalana Hotel garden/restaurant right on the beach is great for the wife to hang out even if you aren't staying there. The right at Rams is worth a surf. Unfortunately with Sri Lanka it gets packs of Israeli surfers with complete disregard for etiquette in the water so be prepared for plenty of drop ins if they happen to be surfing with you. Worse at Arugam bay than the hikkaduwa stretch . Well that was 08 and 05 so maybe it's changed for the better since then.

Can anyone recommend a place to stay near Hikkaduwa? Taking the wife as well. Somewhere near a decent uncrowded wave and reasonably priced? First time there, not expecting Indo style waves but a barrel would be nice... cheers...
