~ Surf tours North Korea ~
We got the press release (like everyone else) - I'm not sure what they're aiming for:
"The first part of the surf expedition will include mapping and analyzing wave patterns along the coast. The second part will be an intensive surf camp with a world-class instructor for surfers of all levels."
Dunno if I'd head to North Korea to learn to surf. It's US$2,400 ex-Shanghai, for one week in September. They'll be hoping the weather patterns are favourable, as that's a small window of opportunity.
Yeah Udo, like Ben said we got the press release, though it was more a call for customers than media statement. A quick search on GE shows the swell window for North Korea is tiny, most likely dependent on local storms with quick wind changes meaning the swells, except for the rarest of occasions, will be weak and short lasting. That said, it'd be an eye opening trip.

If you made it back out
It's a strange angle they're going for. Beginner and intermediates & suggesting they take long boards. Its almost as though they're expecting to find nothing.
Could be some good waves on the odd occasion...
An interesting looking lineup... with probably some VERY interesting conditions to get working.
The Japan and East China Seas are big bodies of water, yes local storms, but plenty of fetch potential for some serious swell.
But the predominant wind direction there is westerly - straight offshore.
Not when a tyhpoon moves through, as per Sunday week..
Good luck getting an ideal system to move through on the 1 week our of the year that they choose to run the trip.
But I'd still be interested.
Haha, yes this is true CM.
