read a pretty good little piece in an old SL mag the other on the guys who first discovered a certain wave in NW WA.
not sure if its a fishermans tale or not, but apparently these guys ended staying for months with no food or water, even drinking water out of their vans radiator at one point.
obviously when your camping out, water is the most important essential, followed by food (and then beer). these guys say they survived by boiling salt water and collected the evaporation, and used an old aboriginal technique to discover an underground water spring.
just wondering what sort of measures you blokes have had to resort to in the past to keep roughing it at 'that' spot. any hints or tips for someone thinking of doing it in the future?

Biltong is good. Tuna cans lots of them. Dried fish in Indo. A saltwater desal device would be handy.

Speaking of plans like that, a dream of mine is to sea kayak throughout some Indo island chains. I don't know if I'll ever get around to it though.

Bashed up abalone fried, moroccan spice, rice and a bit of bbq sauce brings back nightmares from SA trips back in the day,
If you can catch or spear fish then you can keep going for months with some basic spuds, onions, tinned coconut, curry powder, a bag of rice and some basic spices. A can of tinned fruit every 2nd day is also a winner
Added bonus of catching fish is trading it for red meat or an invitation for an evening camp stew or bacon/eggs brekkie from short term travellers
Learn how to cut up a goat, plenty on the side of the road

Ah abalone, morning dive for your daily quota........swap some for some dakka.....get stoned sell on a bit to cash up for the night ........go to nearest pub for a counter meal and heaps of cold beer.

Fourteen years without electricity or running water...( with a family) taught me a few things that weren't covered in prison that's for sure.

Only 14 years; you had it good, when I was a lad we had to live under a rock! No no that wasn't the 1/2 of it, we had to share the rock with barley and he such a whinging little prig we moved out as soon as we could. I hear he still lives there. How long were in inside Roy?

So many rude and false statements on that page that I took it down, and was then banned from Wikipedia for 'vandalism' i.e. for taking the page down.

Indeed, sentenced to 10 years at the age of five, I did another three out of sheer bloody mindedness and because i was in the habit of playing six handed 500 with my fellow inmates.

The sentence was periodic detention, staring at a blackboard most of the time.
