I heart WOTD
After thrown' the mowin', Blowin's toin & froin is now flowin' & has sewn up WOTD
I think Wade would probably have made the tube without Occy’s sabotaging pratfall. Mind you, when Wade exited the tube, it might have been a moment of excitement avoiding the shoulder traffic.
Do you get angry with Occy for dropping in? I understand with the rest of the QLD "coolangatta kids" who have made a career out of dropping in on their fans but Occy ? not sure . I still reckon his introduction at 16 in Billabongs Surf into Summer is some of the best surfing ever, if some kid surfed like that today they would be ruling the tour, timeless , no airs but spray and unbelievable re entrys. I have been sprayed in the face by Tom Carroll doing a cutback and dropped in by Jake "the cock shake" Paterson on more than one occasion and will never not think he is a total fuckwit, but Occy the jury is out (no matter what his lifestyle choices are and even if he was (or wasnt ??)sucked off by sarge)
Epic Stuff, first surf Vid we ever got our hands on, school holidays yr 9
Butto. Used to see him every morning, 1st thing. Me going surfing, him to work, grubby subbie, with a can of Woodstock.
Goldie! Fucken shithole.
Occy used to buy weed off us though. Wog cunt.
Oi!
South Oz is going to close its borders!
coloureds......wonder how uplifts going?
Probably in a nutshell
SA border lockdown from this Tuesday. Fark. 2nd bloody trip cancelled. 1st international, 2nd interstate. Next will be inner state!
Make sure you are near a spot you like Pupkin, it's going to get real local real quick. Take care.
You got til tuesday then its all ours!
Lol
WOTD today man that's the business
Stu, how long can you keep up the virus related WOTD captions? The captions are the best feature of SN. What about your top 10 captions of all time?
@Swellnet crew
Ive often wondered about the captions, how hard is it to come up with them everyday?
And how much time and effort do you put in?
Do you see the photo the day before and then spend the next day in the bak of your kind thinking, dark what can we use to caption this, and then it hits you at the weirdest moments, and you quickly write it down?
I had actually considered starting a thread just to get some suggestions captions for future pics.
I picture the crew sitting around a table 30 Rock style throwing out ideas. Indo, feel free to start a new thread.
@Indo,
I write them all, hence the semi-sameness in theme and tone. Mostly the process starts about thirty seconds after my alarm goes off and I quickly have to choose a photo from our library then a caption to go with it.
Very occasionally I'll have my shit together, so I'll sort it out the day before and schedule it in for early the next morning.
Even less frequently, I'll get sent a photo and the caption will come to me straight away. The Occy panic buying shot was one recent example, but it doesn't happen very often.
I update and change the library regularly as we get sent a lot of shots, however most of them, the vast majority in fact, are just renditions of perfect waves and they're the hardest shots to caption.
Yeah okay, i have to say, you do a good job, the captions are generally pretty good, would be harder than some think to come up with new captions everyday, especially ones that don't sound bland or corny.
Now you’re just twisting the knife
Singing like Cat Stevens, dreaming like the Everly Brothers.
Love todays photo! Twisiting the knife yes but I'm stuck in Sweden so I'm used to it. :)
@indo-dreaming great point re. captions. I ran a website a while back and had 80 thousand email subscribers waiting for their 'quote of the day'. I had to find a good quote and put it to an image, that was my niche. I didn't get sent images, instead had to find them to suit the quote I had chosen. From the beginning it was fun, but after a couple of years it was a nightmare, knowing that so many people wanted something special and new every day. Probably the main reason I sold the business.
Stu.....your captions are so spot on! Timely and thought provocing in just a few words. And you do it, from what I understand 365 days a year, or close to that. Thank you!
Oooh, that's an old fave. Thank you.
Without giving too much away, is today’s a reasonably well known spot to the east?
Nope. Look directly north of Perth.
We may be talking about the same spot. 2 words. 4 letters each?
Nope.
Much prefer the right at the other end of the bay.
Ahh okay. Now I think I know.
Some breaks and the small town off to the left of there?
Agree with call about the right down the road. First trip I did there in the early 90s I met a guy who told me there was a paddock where the wave now lies but a tsunami changed the whole shape of the coastline.
That may have explained why the right has a softer bottom - i.e less coral growth.
The right is probably in my top 5 of places to surf.
That left, though, will do so many different things and keep you happy from 2ft to ??ft. Surfed it in the giant swell that closed Ngurah Rai airport in the early 2000s, and it was insane. Longest period swell I've ever seen.
IB, check your dm’s on insta
?
Don't see anything new. What am I looking for GF?
Sent you a message few weeks ago
Sorry, can't find any :-(
No idea where the hell it went. Try again, yes?
Standby!
Assume that pic from Andrew Shield is not a recent pic of "the other side"?...... Also is the car park next to it shut now? I know the boat is not running (thank god)...
Nah, it's a very old one.
thought so - the footage of Munga and crew in Gripping Stuff bought back fantastic memories of that place in the 90's......... be an interesting season over there this year...
So hard to leave when its like that. The paddle home in near darkness really does suck though. Especially when your the only one in the seaway...
"What awaits us on the other side?" A left.
Didn't even need to glance to the top right to confirm who took today's WOTD.. knew it was PJ at first glance. Old mate's been on fire for a while now.
Have looked at that pic of Filipe over and over today. It shows how well a modern board fits the curve of a wave. Cracking shot.
I think I saw him out there in that wettie, twice the speed of any other surfer in the water, it was incredible.
Curious. I check the snapper cam and every one is wettied up. This central coast dude is in boardies. Whats the go there?
The wave of the day does it for me big time. Nice work Steen Barnes , Shaun Anderson and Swellnet.
In one photo you've encompassed everything nice about surfing. If I was a wanker I'd say that it was perfect except for the fact he is in a wetsuit. Which it is , it's perfect .....except for the fact he's in a wetsuit.
