Kelly to surf BWWT
My understanding is that he's got a wild card for every BWWT event. However, as Peru showed - that doesn't mean he'll necessarily surf in the event.
If ol baldy knew he wasn't going to surf in Peru comp should he have let them know so another surfer could have taken his spot ?
Is that possible to do.
Isn't that what happened? The next alternate surfer was given a place.
The ASP Press Release emailed July 1st stated:
"The 24-man field for the Billabong Pico Alto will be comprised of the ASP BWWT Top 12, lead by reigning world champion Grant 'Twiggy' Baker, as well as six ASP wildcards and six local wildcards". The release then named all 24 surfers.
However the ASP Press Release emailed on July 3rd - just before competition kicked off - listed four new surfers: Will Skudin (USA), Sebastian De Romana (PER), Adur Letamendia (EUK), Grant Washburn (USA).
Surfers listed in the July 1 Press Release who didn't make it on competition day were Kohl Christensen (HAW), Alex Gray (USA), Kelly Slater (USA) and Renzo Zazzali (PER).
I have no idea - I'm not in regular communication with the ASP so we only know as much about their events (BWWT, WT, QS etc) as they care to tell us.
However, as Stu wrote in this article in May:
"Of interest is the number one wildcard in all six BWWT events – Kelly Slater."
"In short, they (ASP) needed to push him into the limelight even more. Which is what they appear to have done with the BWWT announcements giving the 11-time world champ a golden pass. Expect to see his name being used in all pre-competition press releases."

Given Kelly had an early exit at J-Bay and is going to be hanging around in SA. Anyone know if he has been given a wildcard or is likely to surf Dungeons in the BWWT?
@Thermalben I know you follow the BWWT closely..
