Tunes
Let's have the stories.
I'll spin a yarn tomorrow, suffice to say that the first two times I went on commercial shell diving trips out of Mackay I spent the night in the lockup.
Saw the Sunnyboys with my old mate Eggy at the Miami pub in 1981....Debut Goldy performance I think...
On the door was an advertising poster with the classic Sunnyboy logo, and Egg's gone...."that's mine".
Come end of the gig, we beelined for the door only to be greeted with some guy standing on the footpath with the said poster neatly rolled up and tucked under his arm, chin wagging to his mates...
Quick plan devised.....Egg stood by to keep tabs on the prize and I retrieved the trusty HR parked nearby.
Slowly and quietly approaching the target, I reached across and swung open the back door in time for egg to snatch the prize from behind and dive in the back seat in a typical Starsky and Hutch getaway.....pissed ourselves laughing all the way back to Cooly..
Original poster is still framed on Eggs living room wall....
"old fart Sunday greatest hits"
Gotta dig The Jam.
Gotta dig Foxton. Saw him with Stiff Little Fingers in Dublin in the 2000s. Same hair. Same moves. Legend.
Yeah I’m a jam fan too. My sons’ in a band that’s enjoyed a bit of notoriety in the past few years. We went to see them in the US and it was a blast. This is their latest tune, with grandma driving the car. I’m a proud dad.
Classic Sando....well done to the boys..
Sando - classic . I really like the Chats.
I was going to post that AC/DC vid a couple of days ago. My missus is sick of me singing “ I’m on smoko so leave me alone “.
I dig their whole deal. The music , the vibe . Unreal.
Thanks Blowin
Your poor “missus.” If you get a chance, go see them live, I’m obviously bias but it’s worth it. Cheers
Will do Sando.
She digs the song just not my version of it.
megzee...
Oxley brothers played in the The Strand @ Miami most Weeks during 1979.
Had those Shoestring Ties / sandshoes Punk Look ...here's how that Sounded.
By the way! You might recognize this track becomes an upfront Sunnyboys track.
As you said megzee ... most likely Miami was Sunnyboys first Goldie / Oz Gig.
Miami Bands 1979-82 ( The Strand were the lively alt rock House Band )
Ratpack / Worms / The Strand / *Dealer / Sheba / Deadline / Sigh of Relief / 7 Ballerinas
Brisband *Mr Meaner were *Pub /Punk (Voted best by peer Qld bands 1980)
Like Angels & Radz & Mr Meaner put out way more tricks than others live bands.
Mr Meaner were masters at improvising simple gear to kick it up next level.
Listen to their tricks & how well they shift gears. ( Goldie salute Mr Meaner! ) Rare!
Locals refer to this as the Mr Meaner AA single ( You can't Fault either track. ) Enjoy!
1980 (A) I dig the TV
1980 (A) Ripped Off, Again!
Cheers TBB,....spot on info as usual...
Thought it was 81 but 80 sounds about right...
Anyway, I jumped on a Greyhound bus and headed to the NW a few weeks after the gig....for a couple of decades.....
Bit of a step back in the music scene back then as they played both kinds of Music north of Geraldton back then........Both Country and Western......
The Chats - good stuff Sando. They've already racked up a few classics.
Gotta love a quiet reflective Monday night.....
Love the Sunnyboys.
Yes, it's that time of year again. Huzzah!
Leather not lederhosen.
Hahahahahaha. Gordon Bennett! The above is why the Oz switch went from the UK (Crass and similar excepted) to the States, methinks.
Also from 1983:

Interesting Jello travelogue take on Oz in general.
Redux! Reflux?
Yep, something NQR about ANL and that Oi! scene. But not everything out the UK is as bombastic.
Or something more chilled for a Friday arvo in the sun.
What happened to Pricey ,was it a mutual parting of ways asking for a friend, cheers.
No idea mate. And I’m serious
Tell your “friend” it’s none of my business and probably not theirs either.
I posted their new song and a “story” (sure; not a very interesting one) as a bit of a positive connection between the surfing community and the band.
If you want gossip on the inner workings on the band, ask them yourself and make up your own mind. Cheers and I mean that in the nicest way.
Imagine being able to casually pick up the axe & play like this & make such a wonderful sound with a bunch of your mates......
Yeh, that one's deluxe rabs. Epic. So many things the guns can do with axes. This guy... maybe it needs to be the right time... volume cranked up... maybe before jumping off the cliff in front of blax who's playing at the phantom, with the volume cranked up a few notches for a bit of fun with the boys...
And the mates didn't mind West doing his axe thing with them either...
Time to dream...
Mountain are the fucken shit. 'Nuff said.
An old fave: The Stranglers plays Dionne Warwick - and somehow it's perfect. Damn, they were good.
Wondered when that gem would show up IB.......brings back some NW 80's winter memories.....cheers...
Might as well throw this one in the mix.....
Originally heard this on the first Triple J Hottest 100 CD......
Great stuff Megzee. Probably my favourite guitar solo from the 90's.
No truer words spoken Icandig........I nail it on air guitar.......
Yeah all three guitar solos are sick but the last one is the one is amazing..I just love everything about Dino Jr, i love interviews with J too, he is sooo mellow, but also real smart.
Did info-o-matic mention guitar solos .....
Here's one for a Sunday afternoon.
Put it through your big speakers.
No worries mate, didn’t expect an answer, you should be very proud of your son ,my tongue was a little bit in my 56 year old cheek, wish my boys had a little more get up and go than the grog and computer games and occasionally surfing if I kick them out the door.
Mettallica Enter Sandman - Buddist Monk cover
crank up the volume
Crikey Udo.......does he does a version of this...
https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=steve+and+danno+punk+song&docid=608...
a pearl of wisdom film clip......and a great piece of music...
That was pretty cool Megzee. Cheers.
“Your not like this in real life, so don’t be like this online”
Amen to that......
Cheers Rab's....I found it a few years ago when I was trying to ween my daughter off of FB....
the message is true to the word and the soundtrack is profound....
as for Radio Birdman........they are just legendary.....
2 good vids Megzee. New Years resolution (amongst others) is to ditch FB. Radio Birdman - 10th on the Chats list of best bands lol / rofl / yolo. Gunna go and lick a bus window now.
Hahah.....Classic Icandig......
I'm 62 and throw on a bit of Birdman every so often and my wife thinks I'm having a mid life crisis.....
As for FB....never had it.......can't quite work out what it's about.....
Last year i went to buy a boat and as he was showing me i noticed a Radio Birdman symbol tattoo, so i said Radio Birdman fan yeah.
For a split second he looked shocked, he said everyone always thinks its white supremest symbol or something. (he was a pretty tough/rough looking guy)
Anyway we talked music after that and i ended up buying the boat.
Rob Younger lives two streets over.
Quite the sight walking down the IGA wearing stovepipes and winklepickers in mid-summer.
Great to hear fella's.....Birdman and Birdman fans are alive and well..........
'Man with golden helmet
Drinks water from the faucet'
Too true RM
Then there is smooth over smooth......Mr. Graney springs to mind.
Gotta love Aussie music...
Right on Megzee!
Only really a visitor to Swellnet for pics and vids but saw this and spent a week going through the 8 years - time well spent!
Picked up a few new ones for my playlist - has brought back plenty of old memories and then stuff I've never heard of - you guys mustn't have ever had time to surf to build up the amount of music knowledge on display - outstanding!
Partial to good musicianship myself, particularly drums (50% of my favourite songs are probably instrumentals) so was surprised that my all time fave band, Rush, has not been mentioned once. Try this if you want to hear 3 maestros at work
YYZ by Rush
It's about that time of year...
This came up in a mix today, kind of lost me after this album, but an amazing song writer.
Love these lyrics, more relevant than ever in 2020
"And youuuuuuu do not have a monopoly on the truuuuuth, believe everything you read, and in twenty years we will put you behind glass for all the people to come and see, they will be rolling in the aisles"
Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.
Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.
