Rip Curl Portugal
First year when it was the search?
09?
there was another year where Adriano beat Slater in the Final that was a tube shoot-out from start to finish.
I'll say the same thing I said about France: these close-out beachies are a major retardant on surfing progression. There's just not enough scoreable waves per heat so conservative surfing is required.
fcuking hell, couldn't believe the final day in France, it was worse than a club round in Le-ba.
Jeez im getting over these contests in half arsed closeouts,so much luck involved for the contestants ,sorta feel sorry for them really but it gets boring watching the same old same old.......yawn.
Hopefully they get some good days or even pumping Nazare.
Wonder why they've not considered Coxos?
it doesn't make it look any better when they are showing Wilko and Medina surfing G-land in the rip curl ads.
even semi-onshore off season G-land would be a thousand times better than this.
it really is a joke that world title heats are decided in this garbage.
Totally.
Slaters board looks really rockered when he walked down the beach
Went pretty good on it though! Old guy on form
Adriano underscored.
Edit: for that first air imo. Clearly won the heat.
There was good waves yesterday but they were rare, it was basically a roll of the dice and who ever got a good one and surfed decent enough got the scores.
And when that tide bottomed out it really went crap, you know conditions are inconsistent when Madina and JJF both lose their first round heats.
they have to fuck Europe off or move to Canary Islands or somewhere.
these beachbreaks are QS locations and we mostly get QS level surfing.
Just got back from supertubos and all I can say is what a dump horrible smelly place
and the wave itself well if you like shore breaks that mainly close out its heaven. Why
they have a WSL contest there is beyond my comprehension especially when Portugal
has a zillion great reefs and point breaks. Coxos and surrounding area for one. Not to
mention Nazare beach. Now that place has perfect A frames of heavy heaving mega
pits worthy of a WSL contest. Love Portugal its a surfing playground cool locals and
cant wait to go back but supertubos what a superhoax.
just noticed the aquarium under the desk of the commentators, has that always been there?Good looking cray sitting there.
They are getting a few turns in. Tide must be right. It's quite watchable, at the moment.
Though swell seems to be fading, maybe I spoke too soon.
p.s. A couple of almost overhead ones. 3 to 4 turns. I'll shut up now.
Good idea to move, morning was slow but a decent afternoon once the tide dropped and a bit of size about it. JJf looking pretty relaxed, he just looks much better than anyone else to me. Could be his with medina gone, meant to be a bit bigger tomorrow could be a good day.
Bring back Mundaka and have a longer waiting period.
Supertubos looking solid this am hopefully wind cooperates.
Awesome quarter finals, crazy barrels good to see proper supertubos at last. Hard to pick a winner, the last 4 are all on fire but JJF might have the line up dialed in more than the others. Hopefully more of the same tomorrow, Jordy JJF final in those conditions would be sick.
Stoked to see JJF closer to a world tittle.
The cray in the tank looks like it's history. Along with the fish.
A moment of silence please.
And pass the butter.
Great finish to the comp JJF worthy Champ the WSL could probably improve the title presentation a bit not to mention the uniform of the acting commissioner.
Just started and it looks like another year of crap shoot shorebreaks. Here's hoping the conditions dont play against the title contenders too much.
