Carbon fibre is a very robust form of fibre, used in racing yachts and rowing shells where they want the stiffest construction possible, which will bring up that old chestnut of flex in your boards,ie eps/epoxy v p/u construction.I wouldn’t do it

If you want a board to flex, why not use glass instead of a lighter carbon fibre,if the board flexes ,the resin starts to fatigue and that’s why boards lose their liveliness, the difference would only be a minor weight saving, might be time for John from Sanded to chime in.Search the internet for Surfersteve,he was doing something with all carbon fibre boards but it seemed a bit amateurish though.

Not sure you'll be able to get any boards off them soon, but these guys are going down a recycled Carbon path. Worth a read / watch.

There's a dude over in the US named Justin Ternes who specialises is Carbon construction. Has done boards for many of the major labels under his Dark Arts moniker.

Couple of podcasts kicking around with in-depth interviews with him too.

Saw a full Carbon 8 ft mini mal imported from US. Amazingly light weight, totally stiff to the point where it almost rings when you tap it. Blank dissolved via a drain plug, so just air filled.$2500 2nd hand, and the guy that had it said it rode like a really stiff surftech, and was so light you had to be really careful it did not" take off" in an offshore when doing reos ' / top turns.

I've got a Brewer plumeria 7'10'' that's half carbon (hull) and half kevlar (deck), hollow with a plug. Lightest, most flexing board I've ever ridden. Really the only board I've ever felt flex underfoot. Also, due to the kevlar, it's handy in a gunfight.

Some of the cheap popout imports have been using carbon for years too. And when I say "carbon", I mean sharpie drawn lines around rails and fins.

used Carbon for a couple of years in France ,for EPS slalom boards.......then surfboards , didn't really work as well as classic blank and stringer....lot broke, filled with water etc...
I work with one of the great Australian composite experts....he says there is NO need for carbon on a surfboard......in fact carbon is detrimental to a surfboards performance , and carbon was just a misused material , it's sexy black....and for a lot of shapers who can't design , using carbon became part of their MO , as they keep rolling out technology as their latest thing!

A guy in Indo had a board fully wrapped in carbon just a standard PU/PE, i can't remember much on how he said it went other than fast.

i did a carbon foil board. If you want to do something with carbon give it a shot as its nice and stiff, looks good and a bit of fun doing vacuum bagging etc

Roy loved winding people up online. It was a two way street there. He’s a bit of a visionary no doubt though. I rode one of his 12ft paulownia boards once. It was an experience that changed the way I look at surfboards.

Hi mate, im Fil, the founder of JUC SURF. We're a startup currently making full carbon fibre boards out of recycled and pristine carbon that have the same flex response as glass. From what we know these are the first boards that have this flex response. I've used carbon fibre for over 10 years so if you have any questions or want to know more message me at anytime.
