Boardriders rights vs privileges

Humans can own their freehold plot of land in Australia.
Any surfer can ride the waves on any beach that has public access.
Competition kooks range from Amateur to "PROstitute" level.
LOL

Board riders clubs should be able to have their competitions wherever they want, but don’t expect everyone to clear the water for their important try hards .
When Snapper board riders have their competitions, they basically have to put up with the crowd, just don’t get too
pissed off if a 12 year old in a singlet drops in on you!

Pete I’ve lived within walking distance of either Manly or Queenscliff beach for nearly 30 years and seen it all.
Those blokes who sit on the silver seats near the NSSLSC have been guilty of intimidating people out of catching waves at NS as well, it’s not just the boardriders.
But yes, the boardriders do tend to call other surfers off waves both during competition times and free surfs.
I’ve had many a time, mainly at Queenscliff, when there are a few QBC out and they call each other into waves when clearly that will mean they’ll be dropping in on someone else.
It’s juvenile and they’re taking advantage of the fact they’re in a pack.
My son is a reasonable surfer and I’ve said to him many times the only thing I want from him in regards to surfing is that he’s nice out in the water and gives the beginners an even break.
It’s gotta start somewhere and those boardriders probably weren’t raised the same way

Greedy self important compy crew , same as its always been ...
These days the local cowaramup boardriders have decided they need 2 beaks at once these days just to find out who is "going pro" when they grow up. South point and huzzas one weekend ,north Point and lefties the week before ."Non exclusive use " but not really when the over zealous parents and club hierarchy basically pushing everyone to get out (taking the only kid friendly surf spots on the day over).
Surfing wa even worse , not enough to get a free reign over the point for a month during the pro they shoe horn all kinds of other bullshit into the region, grommet event .state rounds, trials, masters events , windsurfing event, everyone gets a ticket!(and a pocket full of piss).
Wankers the lot of them
Exclusion zones for boardriders clubs are a privilege not a right.
I’ve had a gutful of other “surfers” telling me where I can and can’t surf on the weekends.
“You can’t surf here mate, we’re trying to run a contest”
“I don’t care, I’m not bothering anyone.”
“You’re selfish, it’s only one weekend a month”
Let’s think about that for one moment…one weekend a month:
That’s one club, here in Manly we have QBC, NSB, The Mal club, flagged swimming areas, clubbie events that take up to 70% of the entire beach for 3 of the busiest weekends of the summer, surf tag, the Lifeline classic, The Snowy, the Cole classic, several years we’ve hosted major WQS events the Australian open, the Hurley pro, Christian boardriders occasionally.
So that statement is bullshit, as a local surfer unaffiliated with any club I am besieged by this shit every other weekend…so there’s that.
I don’t have a problem with the larger international events, I’d rather they didn’t set up here but they’re probably good for the local economy, and in fact (ironically) they keep the crowds down.
Boardriders clubs I’m indifferent too, I have good friends in every club, and by and large I respect the space of those who’ve earned my respect.
However there are more than a few dickheads in each of those clubs.
I don’t appreciate being called off a wave at my local by a 30+ year old B grade maniac with some unresolved surfing fantasies, I don’t appreciate being asked to move on out of a contest area by someone I’ve never seen in my life, and I dislike the vibe and tension that invariably bubble to the surface when I decide I want to jag a few unridden waves in “their” contest area.
Today I got an icy reception when I cheerfully said hi to a beginner surfer in a contest singlet, a partner of someone whom I consider a friend. Just how screwed up is surfing when it’s come down to this level?
Even worse, I witnessed a couple of older female competitors at the Manly Mal club today trying to intimidate a young local surfer and her 12 year old son, questioning them about why they were out there, it prompted me to encourage them to stand their ground and refuse to be bullied.
Surfing is meant to be free and fun, that’s exactly how I’ve approached it all my life. I don’t actively try to stir trouble with anyone, but I also refuse to be unjustly marshalled out of the surf when I happen upon a surf contest at my local break.
I do know how to read the room so you won’t see me dropping in on little groms.
I’m not about dismantling boardriders clubs, love them or not they are a part of the fabric and history of our towns. For me personally, I find them to be a bit of pain in the arse, but I tolerate them and try to make some space for them.
Those who encounter old icebergs like myself when you’re trying to enjoy a heat during your monthly contest would do well to either greet us civilly or steer clear and avoid embarrassing yourself.
Why don’t I just surf somewhere else? Because it’s the same everywhere, except worse because I’m a stranger there. Also I don’t have a car, and parking would be a drama too.
Why don’t I travel a bit and grow/gain perspective?
I have, and I’d like to add: I know exactly how to behave myself when I do travel.
Why not just chill-out?
I’m totally relaxed…you fuckers have zero chill and that’s exactly the problem.
