I dont know if they are still one of the top dogs or if their focus is still in that area, but you would think this market has huge potential for growth similar to EV's

Buffet cashing out is an interesting case. He had 1/4 of his whole portfolio in Apple at some stage. Which sounds a little bit non characteristic for Buffet. That's a lot of money to keep in one company, around $70, $80B to be precise. So, I know he worked on lowering that down and balancing his portfolio out. He had a similar situation with Bank of America.
And I guess you need to question the growth potential for some companies. Apple seems to be quite stagnant. They urgently need a new product line. They're not really seen as AI company which means they might miss on a bit of hype coming from that perspective. Capital follows profits. Or the promise of future profits. Buffet would follow the same.
On ETFs, I absolutely love ETFs. People who pick shares and time the market will return worse results than an ETF in 90% (a bit of a guess but it's there somewhere) of the cases. One of my favorite in the US is SCHD, a quality dividend ETF that still grows better than ASX. IVV is good, AUD ETF that tracks S&P500. I still buy some individual shares but being on top of it all is a lot of work. ETF is set it and forget it game. I don't even look at the price when I buy SCHD. Just put some money in it every month and move on.
^^ yep x2: my son has been into ETFs from the beginning of his investment years for precisely the reasons you mentioned plus rather than following the daily nuances of the market he figures he can earn more money per hour doing his real job as a consultant financial modeller for top international companies!

On the rocket thing, don't get too excited on what you perceive as failure, if you listen to his interviews going back even years ago, he talks and laughs about how quite a few rockets will blow up, it's not only part of the process, it's an important part of the process, it's how he fast tracks design he pushes certain element's to the limits, and then learns from that.
It's would be very easy for him to build rockets that can go to the moon for instance that tech was around over 50-years ago, but what he is doing is completely different , he is making rockets that can carry a payload and launch for a competitive amount of money that will one day go to mars, that means pushing the limits, cutting weight where possible, and almost reinventing the wheel, and It's all just basically a hobby to him, a blown up rocket is basically like us getting some dings needed to be fixed at your local ding/surf shop..

No shortage of snow for your trip.
Hi Zen, I surely hope some of that excessive POW made it over to you. A funny thing happened on the way to Hakkoda….we arrived into Hakuba the day before 2 weeks of the best snow arrived, it stated snowing heavy our first night and basically didn’t stop. Everyday was a foot and more on the van. We were getting to the fields at 7.30 and would wait with a bunch of hardcore Japanese and a few other foreign faces. Just magic soft dry pow. Spent most of our time at Goryu, Iimori and over into Hakuba 47. I just cruise, not too hard out, I leave that to others. Shot up to Tsugaike for a day and up to Myoko for a day.
After that..we should have gone up to Tohoku but the snow was too good to not stay. So we did a day at Palcall Tsumagoi and then went up into Niigata and hooked up with Hikarigahara Cat Tours for a day. (Highly recommend) this was the best day I have ever had in snow. Deep pow and we opted for more cruising and a surfy vibe than step tree charging.
Summary. Japan never fails to amaze me. The people, the food, the natural environment, the onsens.
I’ve already booked for 2026 and will probably just do Tohoku.

I think it say's more about who you are as a person that you constantly feel the need to hate on those that are far smarter and more successful than you are. (and we aren't just talking Musk you do it to a long list of people)
