thanks udo ...yeah i read all that and was very informative but its a few years old now so was hoping there was more updated info from punters .....maybe edge boards have faded into the ether.
Here's the latest addition to my fleet.

Haven’t put my feet on it yet.
Thursday was looking the goods, 4ft, got near the coast and it’s all lumpy and bumpy from the previous days wind. I give it a miss, go back to my deck construction . Low and behold, after lunch , swell picks up to 4-5ft, benign conditions take over the coast and there was not a puff of wind, total oil slick conditions.
Those who persisted were well rewarded with crew surfing right up until dark in sublime conditions.
Now we enter 10 days of misery. Thems, the breaks. AW

Speaking of crispy, I had a look at some Ben Webbs today at Boards in the Bay. Mmmm...
The big box labels that use basalt largely hide it under resin tints, but it's a handy weave for some colour palettes. Single layer on white it's a golden rust colour, double on white it's a rich kalamata brown, while this blank had been coloured red so the single layer of basalt comes out burgundy. Looks rich and lustrous up close.
Educate me a little on basalt cloth. Why and how is it different from fibreglass cloth (made from silica sand)?

Nah, no difference in the way they ride from what I can detect. Supposedly stronger tensile strength, and the first two boards I had made in them were indestructible, though the last board - ordered earlier this year from another shaper - snapped third surf, in a wavepool of all places. I really don't know what to make of that.
There's the environmental ledger, if that concerns you, it takes less energy to create and basalt is in more abundance than the sand used in fibreglass.
Cost is pretty much on par, it's just as easy to work with and wet out, though any sanding hits show up.
But really, call me superficial, I just like the look of it.

Is that a big double through the bottom IB?
It's a very subtle double, but the low-angle morning light makes it look more significant. Ben's been putting in that spine through the single lately and really likes it. Felt good to me, not tracking hard up the face like some deep singles.

Seem to be seeing more of those around outside of twins, love the look of the quads, recon you maybe able to go smaller depending on the rial which looks good from the photos.

Fins are all 4", same size, all flat. Very little total area. Looks bigger because rears are same size as fronts.
Rode it with more normal (Pyzel) fronts and small Futures rears. Also very good.

I ended up getting two- good price.
Spent months scouring second hand boards and could not find a thing other than shitty white rice thrusters or expensive hipster boards not in my dims.

Lost is 5'11" by 20 by 2'1/2".

It's been uncharacteristically small on the North Island west coast, so my groveler has come in very handy. Have ridden it every day since I picked it up last Tuesday. So fast, so flat, so fun.
The photo of the bottom sorta makes it appear like there are edges running longitudinally. Is it chined?

Yep. Central concave, and wide chines either side. The idea is that it goes on rail more easily, and isn't sticky like wider single concave boards are prone to be. The central concave is VERY noticeable, as it feels like a hovercraft.

We highly recommend 'imgur' for image hosting (http://imgur.com/). You don't even need to register with them (although if you do, it'll help you find previously uploaded files).
Simply upload a photo via the 'Computer' link on the RH column, follow the instructions and then copy the URL provided under 'Direct Link (email & IM)'.
Then in a forum thread, wrap the image URL with image tags, ie [img] and [/img].
For example, [img]http://_______[/img]
