Hi mate, I'm wondering how you define vulnerable or "less oriented population".
Hey AndyM… so, when assessing a human in medical crisis ya start with where they are at. The convention is Orientation x4. So the criteria is name, date/time, place, situation.
“Situation” is tricky as the goal is a certain greater awareness.
The convention is to ask who is President.
So, a patient that can only supply me with enough to warrant AOx2 is vulnerable
I, personally, believe ya can be vulnerable at AOx4, and the DSM-IV is always chasin, but that is me.
I wonder if people in the US are looking at each other with these Trump picks and thinking wtf did we do?

Hi Waxy, thanks for your reply.
A certain degree of what you said went over my head but I'll press on regardless - in any case, I had a quick google, and disorder classes presented by DSM-IV and DSM-5 shed some light.
So I'm wondering, where is this shift in internal dialogues coming from?
Is it cultural?
Does the media bear some responsibility?
Certainly, the sheer amount of information we have to deal with, whether bullshit or not, is off the charts and possibly unprecedented in human history.
Combined with this, a lot of people's coping skills seem to be quite poor, and playing the mental health card has become common - pre-teens now know that they can get away with poor behaviour by blaming stress or anxiety or something similar, and taking sick days due to mental issues is standard amongst a number of young crew (in their 20s) at one of my work places.
At my other work place, the mental issues are indeed very, very real.
So not withstanding those that have been sectioned under the mental health act here in Australia, I wonder how much of this apparent epidemic of anxiety is a result of social changes, changes in diagnosis and even just plain theatre in a world where life is to be made public at every opportunity.

I'm reading 'The Anxious Generation' by Jonathan Haidt. Someone recommended it in the book thread. That explained a lot. It's a sobering reading that every parent must read.
Tulsi is a terrible pick for that role. She has no experience in any sort of management. You can't put someone junior in charge of national intelligence.
Roadkill wrote:I wonder if people in the US are looking at each other with these Trump picks and thinking wtf did we do?
I don't think so. These are the people who won him the elections. He's hiring on a populist rather than a rational basis. So I would say that it's quite the opposite; Trump's voters will love the selection.

It has nothing to do with that. Politics aside, I'm talking about her experience and fit for the role. She has none. Susie Wiles on the other hand is very capable. I think his choice to put her into the chief of staff role is fantastic.

I think Trump had voters that knew exactly what he would do. However a huge tranche of his votes came from people who have nfi about nearly everything. Low socioeconomic with low education achievements that got suckered in with the lies and talk Trump used.
Same with Harris, some knew what they were voting for and some had nfi. That said more Trump voters had nfi and in the months ahead you will see many regretting how they voted.
All the above is simply imo.

Saying Trump is not a misogynist cos he has appointed women for his cabinet is like saying Eric Clapton's rant in '76 wasn't racist cos he plays the blues and covers Robert Johnson. I don't expect you to understand this btw.
Holistically speaking, he picked a range of hard liners to send the 'border closed' message. You will really need to think twice before entering the US illegally under his administration. Just that perception alone will deter some people.

Haha. Doubtful
At the Sydney Morning Herald, Stephen Bartholomeusz explains some of the market moves in anticipation of Trump economics.
https://www.smh.com.au/business/markets/rampant-us-dollar-sends-a-threat...
Bottom line: will add to interest rate pressures
The article is behind a paywall and I don't have a subscription. But I'll add to this. The EU is currently in major panic. Tariffs on EU might even trigger a recession.
https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-tariffs-europe-recession-fears-eco...
And we know what that means; cutting rates in the eurozone. And what happens when you cut rates in the eurozone? USD goes through the roof.
But will he do it? I reckon he will threaten with it but might be keen to give up in the exchange of increased spending on defence in the EU. Especially in the context of Ukraine, he might be able to decrease US spending significantly and let EU finance it if they want to. And if not, he will hit them with tariffs.
He did this with Mexico in 2019. Remeber this?
https://x.com/realDonaldTrump/status/1134240653926232064
Trump loves his tariffs. But he also loves to use them as a bargaining chip in negotiations. We'll see which ones will he actually implement and which ones will be used to get other deals signed.
Just to add, Biden also imposed tariffs. EU is hitting China with 100% on EVs and Biden did the same. 25% on Chinese steel, 50% on Chinese semiconductors etc... Trump is just a continuation of these policies (although he will be more aggressive).
https://www.utilitydive.com/news/joe-biden-china-tariff-hikes-ev-battery...
Tariffs are a hot topic in the EU. Their auto industry is seriously threatened. All the talks on tariffs in the last 12 months laid the ground for Trump's message. I guess it was another thing that went his way in the lead up to the election.
