Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.

Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.

Wow...crew are busting thru the Southern border...thanx for the contraband seedy tunes.

Reckon the crew are onto Peru's claim to pioneering early '60's Psycho Punks.
None care to argue coz they got an epic scrappy back catalogue...pick yer fav' screaming hot mess!
Thankfully it's contagious...play it loud to cave in yer neighbourhood...can't breathe!
So ya wanna join their band...doesn't everyone!
tbb's been waiting 60 years...been locked up here & asylum & still not crazy enough! Argghhh!

A good read about some caledonian girl bands.

The film sounds a ripper and will be worth tracking down once it gets released.

One of the bands that gets a mention.

Was never a huge Jewel fan until i watched this.
This is damn good. Especially when she gets to the improv solo in the middle of the song. It's next level vocal gymnastics. Prepare to be wowed.
It's from that woodstock where all the spoilt college kids from the O.C (a little bit of vague stereotyping on my behalf) rocked up and ended up having a riot at the end because the organisers made a mess of the actual organising. Sounded like hell!

Agree Sebadoh takes the win there...

Pete Mitchell's article sent me on a little spiral. The good kind, not downward, but one thing leading to another leading to something else again, much of it Manly influenced as per the article. So from Manly surf to music and the best band from the area.

The lead singer even had some artwork in the article.

At the time I used to wonder why Aussie punk and hardcore records were so poorly produced - they never sounded like the bands did live. This record was perhaps the first time I heard vinyl capture a band's live intensity. Blew my 15-year old mind.

Mix of loose, Misfits-style backing vocals and the distorted guitar crunch of Greg Ginn but with a rhythm guitar also in the mix.

Six-song EP, massively underrated, but I reckon it's an Aussie equivalent to Nervous Breakdown.

The Hellmenn were not a band i ever got into, but whenever i see their artwork it takes me back to the very early 90s when Waterfront use to run small adverts in ASL & Tracks that was always promoting The Hellmenn, Tumbleweed & The Hard ons, i guess they advertised in those surf mags because of the skate/surf cross over thing.

Being in Tassie at the time it was always hard to get a taste of indie/punk/alternative bands, we ordered in albums like Celibate rifles, Exploding White Mice, Painters & dockers etc based on what we heard on surf and skate videos or maybe what someone's older brother had somehow gotten into, copies of cassetes or purchases from trips to Melb or Hobart.

So just seeing the names and artwork from these bands always made you curious to what they sounded like and why i took a punt on buying Tumbleweed Weed seed EP when i finally got to a proper record store in Hobart.

I guess artwork now doesn't matter so much, but back then, just the name and artwork created a real imagery of what the band sounded like.

Interestingly all three bands also did a lot of their own art work, each having a distinct unique style that sort of helped present an image for the band even before hearing them.

Not on waterfront but the Meanies were also another band of that era where they had their own unique artwork and imagery done by a band member.

I guess the whole doing ones own artwork, be it album/single covers, flyers, t-shirts was part of the whole DIY type punk ethic.
