Swellnet speaks to Steve Clements, father of Kobi, who at just 8-years-old is the latest - and perhaps the youngest - surfer to have the spotlight fall his way.

Kai Barger was his closest competitor on 18.20. Then, with five minutes remaining John John scored a ten pointer at Pipe to get within striking range. From that point on JOB tailed him around the line-up sitting shoulder to shoulder to stop the young fella getting anther wave. A set came through wiith around 30 seconds on the clock, John John sprint paddled to break free then spun late on a bomb.

The organisers of the Volcom Pipeline Pro have been handed an ideal waiting period. The North Shore is seeing an abundance of swell and the organisers plan to pick the eyes out of it. Hence today, with Pipe pumping at six feet, they canned it for better surf. The next big swell hits in two days so the opening hooter should blow soon enough.
