The 2013 Volcom Pipe Pro began with 124 warriors going to battle at the fabled Banzai Pipeline yet by late yesterday afternoon, only four men were left standing. John John Florence, Chris Ward, Josh Kerr, and Olamana Eleogram had fought their way into the championship round. A valiant effort was made by all but as the last seconds of the final heat ticked down Oahu's North Shore erupted with excitement and for the third year in a row John John Florence was chaired up the beach and crowned the victor of the Volcom Pipe Pro.

Today marked day five of the 2013 Volcom Pipe Pro waiting period and after four straight "lei days," mother nature finally cooperated. The contest was called on in temperamental yet fun conditions with waves ranging from head high to more than double-overhead.

For those who didn't tune into the Volcom webcast John John Florence beat Jamie O'Brien in a final for the ages. Sitting on 19.40 points it seemed JOB only had to count down the clock to win. Kai Barger was his closest competitor on 18.20. Then, with five minutes remaining John John scored a ten pointer at Pipe to get within striking range. From that point on JOB tailed him around the line-up sitting shoulder to shoulder to stop the young fella getting anther wave. A set came through wiith around 30 seconds on the clock, John John sprint paddled to break free then spun late on a bomb.
