Surfers are often told that the effects of climate change, most notably sea level rise, could have a direct impact on wave riding. However, it's not the only change that may effect us. Of particular interest to Queensland surfers is the potential southward migration of Irukandji jellyfish.
After a short hiatus the Superbank threw a few lines recently when a small east swell made its way down the well-groomed sandbank. On the weekend Gold Coast photographer, Ryan Williams, drifted down the point shooting various sections, some of them looking as good as they have in many months. He also fired off a couple of frames of Mick spreading his wings at wind-affected D'bah.

GOLD COAST, Queensland/Australia (Wednesday, February 16, 2011) - Gold Coasters proved that nothing beats local knowledge in the sport of surfing, as a host of up-and-coming Queenslanders dominated the opening exchanges of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 4-Star, US$85,000 Breaka Burleigh Pro.
Leading the charge on day one of competition was Coolangatta's Ice Pereira-Ryan who obliterated the 1m Burleigh Heads conditions on his way to scoring a combined two-wave heat total of 12.00 (out of a possible 20).
