Recap
Good surf across all locations yesterday morning before winds came up from the north (Mandurah and Margs) with building surf to 4-6ft in the South West and sets holding 2ft to the north.
Today, a trough associated with a mid-latitude low west of us has brought poor conditions in the South West and an average, windy N/NW windswell across metro locations but this has since cleaned up with easing and improving winds. This window won’t last with W’ly winds due to kick in over the coming hours.
This week and weekend (Jun 27 - Jul 5)
We’ve got a funky day of winds and surf tomorrow as the mid-latitude low to our west pushes north and east, bringing E/SE winds across the South West and E/NE-NE winds in Perth and Mandurah, strengthening at times through the day and then tending variable later.
With this expect shifting conditions and if you find a window of cleaner surf, hit it.
Swell wise, a moderate + sized pulse of mid-period W swell from the low proper is due tomorrow, coming in at 6ft across the South West and 2-3ft in Perth and Mandurah, easing into the afternoon and then further Friday as winds shift SE and with strength across all locations.
The W swell will continue to fade on the weekend, with some fun, background mid-period SW energy due to maintain 3-5ft waves in the South West Saturday, fading through Sunday. Perth and Mandurah will become tiny and to 1ft or so.
Conditions look great with a moderate E/SE tending variabler breeze Saturday, similar Sunday but more E-E/NE.
The models are showing a kick in swell on Monday but it’s mixing a very distant, small long-period signal with existing mid-period energy and size size I wouldn’t expect much 3ft in the South West, tiny to the north.
Of more significance is the larger swell due into the middle of next week, generated by a great looking storm firing up through the Southern Ocean later this week and weekend.
We’re looking at a multi-staged progression with fetches of gale to severe-gale W/SW-SW winds due to generate various pulses of swell, largest into Wednesday.
At this stage surf in the 10ft range is due in the South West, 3ft Mandurah and 2-3ft Perth, with a secondary stronger system possibly generating a decent follow up. We’ll have a closer look at this on Friday but winds at this stage look E’ly offshore Wednesday. Here’s hoping the outlook holds.
