Recap

No real surf over the weekend with yesterday coming in cleanest along with small, weak S/SW swell.

Today winds are favourable for the northern half of the cape, but poor in the south along with a small, slow S/SW swell.

Clean but very small this afternoon

This week and weekend (Mar 7 - 12)

The coming period still remains mostly average with another small pulse of S/SW swell due tomorrow, favouring only a few selected spots in the South West before easing.

The source of this swell was a low firing up south-southwest of us, with a good fetch of strong to gale-force S/SW winds due to provide 3-5ft sets on the south magnets in the South West, small to tiny elsewhere. Perth and Mandurah won't see any size from this source at all.

Winds will be strong but out of the E/SE, shifting S/SE through the afternoon, so try and find a wave before lunch.

Easing surf will then be seen on Wednesday from 2-3ft along with strong, straight E'ly breezes.

The surf will continue to ease and bottom out through the end of the week along with S/SE breezes on Thursday morning, shifting S/SW through the day and holding from the SW into Friday.

This will be linked to a weak trough, with it dissipating on Saturday, allowing winds to tend back to the E/SE.

Swell wise, some small, inconsistent background energy should provide 3ft sets on Saturday, before easing Sunday.

Longer term a slow moving frontal progression that will begin its life as a broad low near the Heard Island region mid this week should project slowly up towards us into the weekend and early next week.

Winds look to be mostly below gale-force and this will result in a moderate-large mid-period SW swell for early next week, but conditions look dicey with onshore breezes. Following this a flurry of stronger polar fronts may be seen, generating plenty of surf but with dicey winds. More on this Wednesday though.
