Good swells though winds are an issue
Western Australia Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 9th October)
Best Days: Saturday morning protected spots, Sunday morning Mandurah, protected spots Monday and Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning in the South West
Recap
Pumping waves across the South West yesterday morning with a peak in swell to 6ft and fresh offshore winds. Mandurah offered fun 2ft+ waves, 2ft in Perth.
Today the swell was smaller and with onshore winds across the South West, average to the north.
This week and weekend (Oct 10 - 13)
These notes will be brief as Ben's on annual leave.
Tomorrow looks poor with tiny waves across Perth and Mandurah, small and to 3-4ft across the South West south swell magnets with a new S/SW swell. Winds will be onshore though, light to moderate out of the W/SW, shifting W/NW through the day.
The swell will ease into Friday morning and onshore winds look to persist across Margs, more variable to the north through the morning but tiny.
Our new long-period SW groundswell for later in the in the day is still on track, along with the mid-period W/SW swell from the remnants of the low pushing up west of us today and tomorrow.
While kicking later Friday but with onshore winds, a peak is due on Saturday to 6ft to occasionally 8ft across the South West, 2ft+ in Mandurah and 2ft in Perth. A morning S/SE breeze should favour protected spots through the morning ahead of sea breezes, with Sunday morning similar in Perth and Mandurah (S/SE offshore) but Margs looks to see a S/SW tending W/SW breeze.
Our possible larger SW groundswell for early next week is also still on track, with it offering a touch more size and consistency compared to Saturday's swell.
It will be generated by a strong and small polar low that's forecast to develop around the Heard Island region tomorrow evening, generating a tight fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W/SW winds in our swell window, broadening while weakening slowly to our south-west on the weekend.
The swell should arrive Monday and build to a large peak into the afternoon around 8ft in the South West, if not for the odd bigger sneaker, 2-3ft in Mandurah and 2ft+ in Perth.
Winds will persist out of the S/SE favouring protected spots, similar Tuesday morning ahead of sea breezes as the swell eases.
We may see more favourable E/SE winds on Wednesday as the swell continues to ease, but more on this Friday.
