This weekend and next week (Aug 31 – Sep 6)

The next few days are fairly forgettable with a progression of vigorous cold fronts lining up towards us, bringing large onshore swells.

Winds will also vary from strong NW to W/SW with each passing front and swells between the 10ft range across the South West, 3-4ft in Mandurah and 3ft in Perth.

One of the strongest and most prolonged frontal system will project a persistent fetch of W/SW gales towards us from the Heard Island region today before moving across us Sunday evening.

A mix of mid-period and stronger groundswell looks to build to 10-12ft across the South West later Monday, with 4ft waves in Mandurah and Perth but with a strong W/NW tending W/SW breeze.

Tuesday morning should ease from a similar size along with weaker though still fresh W'ly winds in the South West, more variable around Perth and Mandurah, creating clean fun waves.

Wednesday will see even weaker winds across the South West which may tend variable as the swell continues to ease, likely from 6-8ft, 3ft in Mandurah and 2-3ft in Perth. Even if winds go variable across the South West the surf will likely be very morning sick and wobbly.

Thursday looks a little cleaner but not ideal as an inland surface trough deepens resulting in fresher SE-S/SE winds on the coast with smaller easing levels of mid-period swell.

Longer term things will settle down a bit into the end of the week and weekend with the Indian Ocean dropping back in activity. There are some moderate sized long-range groundswells on the cards, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
